Comparing infotainment systems (2017 vs 2018)

Featured Replies

I'm looking at buying a Skoda Superb and can't work out whether it's worth spending extra on a 2018 model because it comes with a 9.2" screen and looks like it has better CarPlay integration.

If anyone has used both I'd appreciate your opinion on whether it's worth stumping up extra to go for the newer system? Or isn't there much in it?

Cheers!

I think the 9.2 screen is part of the Columbus system. The only thing this would give that I would use is the ability to link 2 phones via Bluetooth. So you could have one doing maps and another able to receive calls. Useful for company car users.

Oh yeah the bigger screen is nice too. Otherwise it's much of a muchness for my usage at least.

2017 has the MIB2 Columbus unit, with buttons and an 8" screen.

2018 onwards has the MIB2.5 Columbus unit, without buttons and the larger 9.2" screen.

If u want the Virtual Dash cluster, u need to have the MIB2.5 unit.

I thought both were able to make and receive calls? Obviously the 'second' phone needs to be selected to make a call though.

Can anyone confirm?

MY17 could also have the Columbus system as mine does.
and with the virtual cockpit it can be done on the mib2 systems but only some and you can’t have maps on both screens at once :)

Oh yeah that's what I meant. I just said a specific use case. I think only one can be android auto/carplay but both can make/receive calls and maybe have the option of media on either too. Last one needs confirmation.

Yup, that's basically wat I said.

MIB2 Columbus with the 8" screen was available on MY15 to MY17.

I have it on my MY17.

If u want proper VC with full function maps, then u want an MIB2.5 unit.

I’m able to make and receive calls on our MIB2 when CarPlay is initiated. However, I do not like the interface and do not use it by choice.
