McGard locking wheel nuts

Featured Replies

Good morning,

There have been a lot of alloy wheel thefts locally so I have decided to upgrade the security nuts on  my Superb mkIII 2015 3v5 1.6TDI.

They are currently OEM and after a lot of surfing I decided to go with McGard SL grade.

I have a voucher for Halford for £25 which I would like to use up.

My searches show 28018SL is the correct nut whereas Halfords say 27184SL is correct.

Can anyone confirm which is correct please

Don't know the answer to that but a VX maintenance technician once attempted to swap out my McGard bolts with another brand at a service so they must be good.

Well the tech did swap them out, but as I mark service items I saw they weren't my bolts, so I got bolts back with a "sorry I must've put them on another car sir" but got an extra free service, the tech got his cards the following week after an investigation - but he went to a major high street chain straight away and retired not 9 months ago

ha, I killed my McGards a few years ago by slipping off one with the key. Then it took the local tyre place about three minutes to get it out.

I expected these to be the kegel seat, so a cone, but apparently they are the ball / kugel. I would suggest you take one out and check. I didn't do either the swap to or from winter tyres on the Superb and I don't have them available to me to check either. The data I can find online implies the 28018SL is correct.

I'm on my third set of these, first set the key slipped off the nut and bent it and in fairness Euro car parts replaced the set, on the second set the key wasn't a perfect fit so I tried to order a replacement only to be told that a spare key had already been ordered, looks like I was given a set that had already been returned! The third set has seen the chrome part of the locking bolt separate from the bolt itself and now just spins independently. I can confirm these are total garbage. Sadly, there aren't slot of other options as I need longer bolts with having spacers fitted.
