Drive mode select or DCC? .... that is the q

Featured Replies

Hi All! I'm currently driving a 2019 Octavia VRS Estate 4X4 DSG and have placed an oder for a new model. Estimated wait 12 months! 😩 .. I've gone for just drive mode select (which comes as standard on the VRS) rather than the DCC which is an optional extra. My current car has DCC and I always drive in sport mode. Can anyone advise if I'll miss the downgrade? What does DCC do above what sport mode in drive mode select offers? I know the blurb about DCC 'constantly assessing and adapting' but what does this mean in the real world in terms of the feel? Has anyone had both and happy to give me a comparison of sport modes in drive mode cf. DCC? Any help, greatly appreciated! 👍🏼

Well, the DCC is making the ride softer or harder, whereas the drive mode changes the throttle control, the gear change and the steering... I've got the DCC so can't comment on the difference with the standard suspension. I've heard the standard vRS suspension is slightly firmer that the DCC in normal settings...

Where do you get this information about standard being stiffer than DCC "normal"? Thats really disappointing news for me, since it always defaults to normal.

It was an opinion I read either somewhere here or on one of the vRS groups in Facebook. Not sure if I will be able to find it, but seem to remember that the post said that the standard suspension sat somewhere between DCC normal and sport. Why is it disappointing to you - did you order the standard suspension only?

I'm getting mine with DCC, and i was hoping the DCC "normal" would be same as standard vRS.

Disapponting since the drive modes always reset on start. So i'll have to hit "invidual" every time i start the car IF it's really a bit softer than standard vRS.

I was trying to figure this out before i made the order. Eventually i got the Challenge+ pack which came with DCC, so was just hoping that the DCC "Normal" is same as standard VRS.

Would really like to know for a fact, how it is.

I did some search in the forum and found the below:

Just a quote - "...Autocar where they described DCC as being something you buy to access the stiffer Sport mode, so implying Normal is close to non-adaptive." How close - it's a bit subjective, I'd say...

@timster, I read in another topic, that you're getting iV vRS - have you already got the car or still waiting for it?

Bear in mind that in Individual, you can set the dampers to be slightly more stiffer than in sport if you'd like. But yes, you will have to select Individual Mode at every start, as the car resets to Normal...

We'll see how it feels eventually.

Yeah, i'm getting the iV vRS. Just got news that it has arrived my country. So i'll have it soon.

yeah there is the option to go beyond stiff. But well. We'll see how it works out. Haven't driven iV VRS with DCC. Unfortunately its not lowered like petrol version 😞

I'm sure you'll like it! :) Please share some pics and your experience. :)

I'm a bit surprised the iV vRS is not as low as the petrol one. I guess the battery pack makes it heavier, but I'm sure there's a way to lower it. Is it lower than the standard Octavia then?

I will :)

Yeah, they are making sure people wont hit the battery on rocks or something.

RS iV is unfortunately same height as normal iV or any other normal petrol/diesel model. Just stiffer shocks.

I've got a 2022 vRS Estate with DCC and i do like being able to choose between the different settings.  The main i keep it it normal most of the time and flip to comfort if the road is bumpy.  If i'm out for a spirited drive then knock it into Sport but that's mainly for the extra noise.  I've set individual to the firmest setting but rarely use it, its really quite firm in that mode.

What i'm trying to say is for me the main benefit of DCC is actually the comfort mode.  Keeps the family happy.

Just my two cents. After 30 000 km with my petrol vRS with DCC I'm starting to feel that the most stiff setting in the individual could be a little more stiff (for the nice curvy roads). I could swear that it was more stiff at the beginning. But most probably it's only my imagination.

Could someone perhaps verify how does petrol RS and hybrid RS DCC shocks/springs differ? Are the dampers same on both?

Dampers are probably same, but springs aren't, and their calibration might be different.

DCC is always active and adjusting each of dampers beyond the chosen setting to keep the chassis as stable as possible. It's one of the best options you can choose for Octa.

I must say that the DCC is a fine option. I almost daily change my DCC settings depending on where i drive, or what i like.

Also did some ODB11 live viewing of the dampeners. They really seem to be "active" all the time. More on this later.

I also played a lot with the DCC in the beginning - now I mainly drive in comfort, or individual, where everything is set in sport, and the suspension is softer than comfort... :D

What can you see in ODB11 related to dampeners?

Please record several short clips for us. You can merge them and upload to YouTube. Thank you a lot, I am really curious.

It shows the control voltage of each damper. Its like 0.3V is comfort and 1.0V is sport.

Unfortunately OBD11 does not support charts on iphone 😞
