Skoda Karoq - tailgate mystery

Featured Replies

Entering my Skoda in the garage and starting the engine I proceeded to reverse when BBBBBANG ...

My initial thought was a car had driven in behind me and I had backed into it!

Exiting the car and going to the back of the car I discovered the tailgate fully up and the garage door damaged.

I could swear I didn't leave the tailgate up when entering the car ???

Can anyone throw ant light on my mystery ...

Can only presume key fob was in your pocket and something pressed the boot open button.

My car is built for the UK market, the OZ market may be different.

If I'm in the car and the engine is running, my boot doesn't work via the keyfob, so presumably the 'boot open' button was pressed BEFORE the engine was started. But even then, whether I use the keyfob or the button on the drivers door, the boot gives an audible warning when it's opening.  Additionally there's a red warning message on the dash that the boot is open.

So, Son_of_Stig -  If you open your boot using the keyfob, does it give an audible warning? When the boot is open, does a picture of the car pop up in your central display indicating the boot door is open?

Thanks for your replies ...

I believe I still have my faculties (wits) about me but I cannot explain what happened to my bootlid!?

I sat in the car after the accident and pressed the keyfob for the boot ... nothing

I tried to reverse quickly to see if the bootlid would rise fully ... nothing

I have racked my brain but cannot find an explanation for the bootlid to be fully extended

I believe (raising my right hand) that a radio frequency has caused the lid to rise

Failing that I plead the fifth ...

Do you have powered tailgate, and the virtual pedal.

Even if you have manual tailgate and kessy, you can approach it and tailgate will unlock so you can put shopping in.

My guess is you inadvertently opened the tailgate, then started the car, and tailgate gradually went up.  From memory if you have a reversing camera that image displays, so will stop the image with doors etc displaying.

Have you tried to replicate it with unlocking and opening slightly before starting and putting into reverse

Reverse parking is your friend.

:D

Feel for you,I had a senior moment 6 years ago and did this in my Octavia.

New boot lid and 5 years to get insurance back down.

I was having a really bad day having previously cut the phone wire while hedge cutting.

Sometimes life goes to S--t.

With time, senior moments develop into senior periods...

:)

Look on the bright side, with senior moments comes senior discounts. 👍
