Rearview camera, any options?

Featured Replies

I have driven several cars with rear camera, mostly rentals in USA and they all had 1 thing in common, the green red grid moved (bent around) according to wheel turning angle.

In the Karoq, the same green and red grid is there but doesn't move, instead off to the side there is an orange guide showing the wheel path.

Why is it separated like this? seems less useful.  Can this be changed somehow?

Presume the Karoq is the same as the Kodiaq and you can turn the preview screen on the side off and have camera view full screen with moving guide  lines.

@Kenny r, It depends on whether you have a Rear View Camera or an Area View Camera.

Your extract is for Area view and the Karoq manual is similar, but the Rear View Camera gives the view described by @KaroqyBalboa

Sounds to me like its not a factory fit camera and instead a lowline aftermarket where the lines are simply 'stuck' on the display. Got a photo?

Lol, not at all aftermarket.  this is how the rear camera option is on MY21 Karoq SE L.   It sucks but that's how it is...
You think the "sticker" is on the lens or on the touch screen? :D

Nono not physically stuck on, but they are not dynamic and just an overlay based on your description.

Have you got a photo of this camera in action and we can see :)

This is how it appears on mine with the basic reversing camera and not the upgraded area view - the green/red grid is fixed, and the yellow path/guide on the left of the screen reacts to steering inputs

In all my years of having rear-view cameras, I have to admit I've never paid any attention to the guidlines. Until Phobe posted the above pic, I wasn't even sure of my Karoq had them, and it's coming up to 3yr old now.  I certainly wouldn't have known if they were fixed or bendy.

Talk about me never having paid attention and now looking a that picture above ( my car will be the same ) - is it just me or doesn't it stike anyone as odd that the picture of the car appears the wrong way round? If it's reversing then shouldn't the hatch rather than the bonnet be nearest the house? See when you start paying attention to these things, technology gets very messy. :D

I'm just curious - what difference does it make if they're fixed or bendy?  Is Phobe in any danger of parking on the grass just because the green lines don't bend?

Thinking aloud, if someone has trouble reversing a car that's equipped with both a rear camera and rear parking sensors, are guidelines really the solution?

No, as I can park reasonably well all by myself :D

Whereas on our Tiguan with a slightly different camera setup (seems a bit higher resolution than the Karoq) and full park assist (but not area view), the yellow lines are overlaid on the grid and do move with steering inputs
