Fabia VRS Life Story

Featured Replies

As with any car, over the years they get updated.

I've seen on other treads that the VRS has had it's gear ratios changed and I guess that numerous other things have happened along the way.

So.... Is there a complete history of what has be changed/improved over the years on the VRS?

The wheels are now turbocharged too.

Most have Lexus lights

Burberry seat covers are now a delete option

The Veyron engine transplant/ downgrade is no longer a dealer fit option

Afterburners are standard

The big roof upgrade, patented by our very own Devonutopia, is being considered as standard fit by Skoda due to use demand

What I mean is.....

What have been the changes made by Skoda on the standard car over the years.

A standard spec VRS at launch will be very different to a 06 VRS.

Not that different really,

3 point middle rear belt, new rear light clusters, different grille slats, one touch indicators, also different ratio gearbox to the initial vRS.and thats about it IIRC.

Loss of rear door pins too :D

When did the gear ratios change and which set is most preferable?

Think they changed late 04. New ratios i believe give slightly better MPG and more acceleration, but i could be wrong.

Old ratio box cruises at 1900 revs at 70

New box about 2100 at 70, guess that would be less strain on the clutch too

The older set of ratios are longer which means higher top speed, lower cruising revs and slower (marginally) acceleration. The new ratios are shorter so result in marginally quicker acceleration, higher cruising revs and lower top end. I believe the quoted economy is about the same, but it will depend what speed you drive and where you keep the revs :D

The traction control symbol on the dash changed from the triange thing to a skidding car. The dash got dimply near the windscreen, and the airbag logo on the dash changed to a nicer one on the opposite side above the glovebox... hope that makes sense!

Lower top end, lol, because 160mph on the new ratios isnt enough, you really need the 175mph of the old box!

Interestingly, I just checked Skoda's published figures:

'03 vRS: Top speed 127mph, 0-60 in 9.6 seconds, economy (combined) 55.4mpg

'06 vRS: Top speed 128mph, 0-60 in 9.5 seconds, economy (combined) 52.3mpg

So sounds like I'm spouting a load of chuff

Wonder, do they have to meet euro 4 emissions now?

Could that be why the mpg is lower??

thewez

Think they changed late 04.

Think it was early 04, as my March 04 registered Furby had the new ratios.

There is a thread, or two, covering these changes, somewhere on the site...

Oh, and the steering wheel design changed slightly. 'Facelift' cars seem to have a thicker rimmed wheel...

Yes, the vRS is Euro-4 compliant now. But the MPG has remained the same, when compared to a Euro-3 compliant model, with the revised 'box.
