Octavia SE L Mk4 - high beam control (light assist)

Featured Replies

I was thinking of upgrading my  MK 3 Octavia SE L  soon and was looking at the specs. One of the features that was standard on my one the high beam control (Light assist) is seemingly a £179 optional extra now. I find that quite disappointing. I'm sure when the MK4 was released it originally did have this as standard.

It seems at the moment the specs change on a regular basis as a short time ago the website said that another feature the 'fatigue warning' was an option extra and now it's back to being standard.

Maybe I should wait a while and see if the light assist becomes a standard again on the SE L.

Like you I had on my MK3 Elegance but do not have on my MK4 SEL. We didn't see it as an option either

Generally speaking the MK4 is nicer, but in some ways I preferred my MK3. The 4 is a bit too clever....

Well to my mind for all the bells and whistles of the MK4 I prefer to keep my MK3 especially since I don’t pay road tax as it is a 2016. I have read a lot of bad things on this forum about ropey software too. I can continually update the sat nav to an SD card as well whereas you have to pay for OTA updates on the MK4.

Not so. I have a 202 SE L First Edition and High Beam Assist  is not standard kit.

IMHO, the Mk4 is a much nicer place to be than the Mk3s I looked at when changing. Fuel economy is notably better too.

I had the Mk3 and Mk3 face lift, high beam assist on the standard LED lights was pretty hopeless for me on the Mk3, I had it turned off as it was more annoying than useful. The Mk4, especially now the latest software has fixed most of the major issues, is a far better car, it, for me, is miles ahead of both the Mk3 and face lift, quality, economy, looks, for me its an easy choice. I wont be getting the High Beam assist from the online shop either, waste of time with standard headlights, imho.

Spec changes are often driven by availability of components rear view camera (which I have) was not an option recently due to the chip shortage, so it changes all the time. Decide what is essential and what is 'nice to have' and go from there, I would be surprised if HBA was essential... but each to their own, I would have specced the Matrix headlights if I had bought from new, but hey.....
