Karoq kangarooing?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I already have a 13 plate Fabia Monte Carlo and it’s great. We’re now replacing my wife’s EcoSport with a Karoq, hoping to pick up a 69 plate 1.5 TSI manual/petrol this week.

Today I’ve read about “kangarooing” issues where it jerks to a start, when setting off in first gear? Mentioned it to my wife and she flat out doesn’t want it if that’s going to be the case. Is it going to be the case?

We went for a test drive last week but they gave us an automatic (also tried to give us a Kodiaq so clearly did not read my email) so was a worthless endeavour.

Really concerned.

It’s the “Edition”

If it was one of the vehicles that was part of the Service Campaign to have the software update applied then that should have been done.

That can be checked.

The Service History, Warranty History & any Recall Action / Service Campaign history in the first 3 years should be on the Skoda System that a Main Dealer can access for you.

If the car you pick up misbehaves do not accept it.

My manual does when it first starts in te morning, but it is only from the first start from rest. I can live with it.

From memory virtually all the reports of Kangerooing were on early 1.5 manuals.   If you tried an auto unlikely to have same problem as software seemed to deal with it.

But a software update was available (but voluntary, so might not be done)

It does not matter what virtually all reports were about because it was not just an issue with manuals.

There were members here with 1.5 TSI DSG's that had the issue, and had the Software Updates, and their DSG's had a software update and they still got rid of the troublesome cars.

So not many reported here but it was not just a 1.5 TSI manual issue but that does not matter for the OP.

Vehicles that are part of the Voluntary Recall Action are part of what the DVLA have as a Safety Recall and Registered Keepers should have been contacted and any car Sold through the  VW Dealership network should have had the Software Update or updates, and any vehicle serviced at a Main Dealership should have meant the Owner Keeper was made aware of the available Update and to keep a Warranty Valid they may want to have it done.

Thanks for the replies.

Like I said, I’m getting a manual. I’ve asked the dealership to confirm the software update has been applied and will definitely give it a good test before driving home.

Is it a Skoda Approved Used car?  How many miles and is it FMDSH?   That does not mean that it will have been serviced to the Manufacturer's recommendation.  There should be a Service Record handed over if a Skoda Approved used car.  Maybe it never had the brake fluid done at 3 years.   The pollen filter should have been changed at 4 years.  The spark plugs if it has done 40,000 miles.     Hopefully the hand over is smooth and the salesperson on the ball.  Have fun.

Yeah it’s Skoda approved - Mitchell’s in Chester. 4563 miles but not sure where the services were completed yet.

So far the salesperson has been very helpful so I’ve asked her to check regarding the software update.

“There has been no issues with this car. I have had my service advisor check.”

Sounds positive. Collecting on Saturday. :)

Did Mitchell's have any story behind the low milage.

Ex Motability car maybe.   If so that would normally have been Serviced maybe a month before 3 years old and MOT'd early.

?

What is the Service Plan that comes with the car,

2 Services, 1 Inspection & 1 Inspection with Extended Scope?

Hi Baz9

When you do your test drive, make sure it's with a cold engine as the kangarooing only tended to be present when the engine was cold and could clear within a short space of time.  I had a MK III Octavia with this engine and despite a software update the problem remained until I got rid of the car after 15 months of ownership.

Hi Baz9.

We have a DSG 1.5 Edition. I know you are after a manual but I think the software fix for both manual & DSG 1.5 litre engines introduced a noticeable accelerator pedal lag / hesitation to dial out the kangarooing issue. It fixed one problem but created another.

To compensate I found myself having be more aggressive on the throttle to get the faster response I was after. It was most noticeable when trying to go for a gap to join a roundabout where you want a quick & positive response from the engine. It's my wife's car & she could live with it but for me it was a problem when I drove it. The solution for me was to fit a Race Chip Throttle Pedal Box. Easy to fit & adjustable. This has sharpened up the throttle response no end to the point where it feels like a different car with an extra 25hp. The test drive should tell you what you need to know.
