Intermittent immobiliser problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, a couple of years ago the immobiliser on my octavia stayed active for days so we had it towed to the dealer who replaced one of the parts and it worked fine. Just this last week I'm now getting an intermittent error with it staying active for 20mins or so each time. I'd much rather have the immobiliser disabled but the garage says they can't do this. What other options do I have? Could they diagnose the error if it's only intermittent?

No dealer will disable the immobiliser.

Independent probably might have tools, but it's probably happening for a reason though.  You might find that in the future the car stops potentially.

Forgot to say welcome, and also this will most likely have stored a fault code(s) in the car, so they can begin to investigate.  Though for costs, you may actually want to call around some independent workshops to see if they can do Immobiliser off, or diagnostic for you cheaper than main dealer with hands tied and higher prices.

As a quick update, I had an independent clear the Vagcom faults registered and had no further immobiliser issues until a few days ago when it became active again with the warning light flashing. Neither key worked so i knew it wasn't a problem with the key. The same independent came out and checked the solder joints behind the dash but these were all OK so, unable to find any other fault, he'll now disable the immobiliser from the ECU. I'm praying this will be the end of it and hoping it doesn't cause any other electronic issues.

I know someone that had intermittent starting, like try 30 times to make it fire up.

Turns out some numpty had given the fuse board inside the car a "drink" coffee we believe 🤔 It might not be your issue, but if you do immo off and it's no good, then that could be cause.

Isn't it a known issue for the key transponder pickup in the ignition lock to fault with a bad connector?

Also corrosion in/around the ECU wiring connector isn't unheard of.

That would certainly be my first guess to check and a potentially easy fix?

What were the fault codes?
