TDI : Better MPG, turbo vanes not sticking ... Better diesel due to Ukraine war ?

Featured Replies

Anyone else finding their old tech ( ASV in my case ) TDI is running happier these last few months ?

Mine is. :)

Trip MPG suggesting at least 5 MPG improvement over what had become the norm

Is Orc diesel the cause of sticking turbo vanes  ?

I always get a few extra MPG's in diesels in the summer vs winter, I've always put it down to different formulations being used in the fuel for summer/winter.

Not using headlights/seat heater/demisters and as @StevesTruck says, different Winter/Summer fuel mix.

When there is lovely warm weather between November & March which can happen when winter formulation with anti waxing is sold at the filling stations you get just as good fuel consumption if not better.

No extra warming up time with a diesel then.   (It gets delivered mid October in Scotland and i have seen an improvement from filling up with the first winter diesel deliveries when it is still hot weather in October.)

The Ukraine War has made no difference with Road Fuels / Derv, it will not have a higher Cetane,

Diesel from Grangemouth where it was refined is distributed around Scotland and the North of England.

..............

OT but petrol also comes in Winter Formulation as well.

Then with E5 in the UK what the formulation might well depend on where is is getting sold.
