Rear view mirror

Featured Replies

Hi. Would it be possible that the wiring would be in place to add a Auto dimming rear view mirror from a standard one. My car is a Elegance 2011. Which is pretty much loaded with everything.
   Regards Ricky.

Pretty sure it’s already fitted I have the same car and have had one even on my 2005 Octavia elegance also.  I think there are a couple of LEDs below the mirror glass to show if on or off and a button directly beneath to switch.

Thanks all. I’ll look on Sunday to see if the wiring there. I have auto wipers so there will be some wiring in place. And Gav I have that mirror in my watch list.
 Ricky.

Take a look at your existing mirror, if it has the two sensors circled in red, it's an auto dimming mirror. The dimming can be turned on/off using the button circled in green.

Langers.
Thanks for your post.  Mine is not auto dim hence my original post.
 Ricky.

Sorry, given you have auto wipers that suggest a RLS (rain light sensor) is fitted and I wasn't aware of any non auto-dimming mirrors that would fit over a RLS.

Turns out there is...

Back to the point:

- If you're lucky, a previous owner has replaced the mirror and the wiring should be present somewhere...

- If you're unlucky, the car never had a auto-dimming mirror and the wiring won't be fitted...

Hi Langers.

 Thanks for getting back.
are you saying that because I have auto wipers that the chances the wiring might be there.
Regards Ricky.

I'm saying I'm surprised that a car with auto wipers didn't have an auto dimming mirror as standard...

If it wasn't factory fitted then I would not expect wiring to be present.

However, if a previous owner swapped from an auto dimming to manual dining mirror then yes, it should be there somewhere 👍

Hi Langers.
I go and check. And let you know. Thanks again for the information.

Hi Langer.
Just checked the wiring and I can see 3 wires which I’m assuming they are for the wipers and auto lights.

For some reason only known to Skoda, the MK2 Octavia Elegance got auto dimming mirror as standard spec. On the MK2 Superb Elegance, it was an £80 option.

That’s a strange one. My XF jag was a premium luxury and that all came as standard. With DAB.

Did you ever figure out if you had the wires in place to install an auto dimming mirror easily? Interested to know if you did. If so I'll be looking into it in mine!

If you are considering upgrading your mirror to auto dim, then I suggest to go even beyond and install mirror from  Golf 6 with High Beam Assist camera (5K0857511B), which I did.

I have recorded whole installation process:

Hi Jordski.
I looked at the wiring in the back off the mirror bracket and it on had 3 wires. Which I’m as rare for the auto lights and auto wipers. So I decided I can live without it for now.
