Symptoms of a bad CV joint

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm having some issues with my front suspension/undercarriage, strange noises and vibration which neither me or technician can't pinpoint.

I'm interested what are your experiences with a bad inner halfshaft joints or with some atypical symptoms of a bad CV joints

such as sounds or vibration.

Thanks in advance for all replies 🤗

There are a number of variations such as manual or auto, what is the VIN?

I'm asking in general or to narrow it down what are some unusual symptoms, in VAG group, of bad joints. In my case it's fabia mk2 1.2htp..

Hi, I had a bad inner joint on my O3 several months ago. Basically what I experienced was vibration under load on high speed l 100-120km/h( 60-65mph ), or when going uphill on lower speeds. No noise was observed except the resonance caused by the vibration.

It wasn’t happening all the time, but let’s say often in the mentioned conditions.

I haven’t seen a bad CV joint for a long time.

Symptoms of an inner CV joint on its way are usually a vibration or shudder as if a wheel is out of balance but you feel it through the seat rather than the steering wheel. This normally happens under load as described by @fr1nklyn.

Symptoms of an outer joint failing are usually noises ranging from clicking to knocking while turning a corner. I have no experience or heard of an outer causing a wobble but that doesn't mean that it won't under certain circumstances.

Hope this helps.

It's incredibly rare on the lower powered cars like the OP's, it doesn't make enough torque to damage a wet paper bag...

Maybe the 3 pot vibration shakes the crap out of them…:shake:
