340x30mm front brakes are very powerful.

You might find that the limiting factor for the braking is not the brake calipers but the interface between the tyres and the road.

By reducing the size of the front brake discs from 340x30mm to 314x30mm and fitting special lightweight forged 16" alloy rims it's possible to save over 30kg in unsprung weight compared to Skoda's 19" wheels. Even comparing the lightweight 16" option with 17" and 18" Skoda options, it's possible to save over 20kg in unsprung weight.

314x30mm front brake discs are fitted to mid-range Kodiaqs and some other VAG cars. They use the same calipers as the 340x30mm brake discs, so the only change needed to go from one size to the other is to swap the brake discs and brake disc caliper carriers.

314x30mm brake discs weigh about 9.4kg each, and 340x30mm brake discs weigh about 10.8kg each. Once you include the shorter brake caliper carriers, changing from 340x30mm to 314x30mm brake discs should save about 3kg in front unsprung weight. However, the biggest weight saving will be changing to 16" lightweight forged alloy rims such as the ones below.

To get an idea of how heavy the standard Skoda 17", 18", and 19" alloy rims are, view the Superb MK3 alloy rims on "skoda eshop cz". The weights are often shown on the listings. For example, 19" Trinity alloy rims weigh a whopping 14.4kg each, which is almost double the weight of the lightweight forged alloy 16" rims shown below.

It's no wonder so many Superb MK3 owners with big, heavy wheels fitted find that the standard shock absorbers get a little overwhelmed. Lots of unsprung weight has a very negative effect on handling, especially on bumpy roads.

The below Audi 7Jx16 ET45 8D0601025K forged alloy rims only weigh 7.3kg each, and could take a 225/60R16 tyre size. 225/60R16 has about the same outside diameter as 245/45R18 and 245/40R19 tyre sizes which are non-standard tyre sizes that some Superb MK3 owners are using.
