280 4x4 Front brakes

Featured Replies

It's time for new front disc's and pads on my combi 280. I have read alot of positive stories on fitting clubsport disc's and pads. Just priced them up and they are a whopping £570. On the autodoc website I can get vented brembo or ATE disc's and pads for about £300 or cheaper. I hope to get a remap soon, but just wondering peoples thoughts on whether the clubsport setup is worthy of paying double?

vented brembo

Dont get brembo! Terrible aftermarket pads! Just take a look at everyone complaining of brake noise and squeaking, 99% of the time it comes back to brembo aftermarket brakes.

Personally id get ATE as that is what was fitted from the factory.

Thanks for the heads up. I was quite happy with standard brakes but liked the look of the vented disc's.

Standard discs will be vented, even the rears on a 280 are vented as standard.

im assuming by vented you mean either grooved, drilled or maybe something else?

Have a look on AUTODOC. Zimmerman do a sport drilled they are brilliant discs. Couple that with brembo xtra pads and it’s a good strong set up for road use

Don’t forget if you upgrade the brakes, you will only get the benefit if you fit appropriate seasonal tyres.  If tyre’s don’t grip at relevant air temperature then having best brakes in the world isn’t going to make any difference

I have just recently changed from vredestein quatrac pro to Michelin cross climate 2's. Hate the Tyre size on this car 😂

I mean that’s very over simplified. Upgrading the brakes making them larger/vented/grooved basically whatever you do to increase the surface area doesn’t always mean you will stop any quicker than before.

You can happily lock the wheels up even with the cheapest pads and discs on the market and this is why good tyres matter no matter what brakes.

there is no difference in the lock up of big brakes vs small brakes, 0 wheel rotation is not what we are trying to achieve as then the tyres are doing the stopping of the vehicle, not the brakes.

performance brakes are better for a few reasons, mainly heat dissipation, you won’t get anywhere near as much brake fade with better materials and a larger surface area. You then have gas build up, prolonged use of the brakes causes the friction material to break down and release gases so it reduces braking efficiency as pads aren’t making full contact.

Brake upgrades 90% of the time come down to heat, just cause brakes are bigger doesn’t mean you’ll notice any difference under normal driving.

Hear hear!

37.5k and huge lip on disc's, squealing. Got advisory on mot few months ago and checked myself and thought I might get away with pads. But last few weeks big difference in stopping ability so just going with both.

All depends on how much stop start city driving you do.  If you're doing alot of highway driving your brakes will last longer.

Yes, I do quite a bit of driving on  country lanes which means alot of slowing and accelerating. Rear brakes were changed at 35k which surprised me. Thinking must be related to the automatic cruise control.

95% in town i'm afraid

Very happy with my MTEC grooved front discs fitted in March - MTEC1807 - black coating so the centre hub doesn’t rust.

I paired with Ate Ceramic pads from Autodoc, which were slightly more expensive but literally zero brake dust on my wheels now.

Certainly stops well, and relatively straightforward to fit.

They certainly look the part. I'm looking at ordering the Zimmerman coated disc's I think.

Do brake calipers off an Audi S3 fit directly onto the Skoda Superb Sportline (280hp)

I thought the Golf R /S3/280 all had the same 340mm brakes. But someone here will know for sure.

The 340x30mm front brakes and 310x22mm rear brakes appear to be functionally the same.

There are cosmetic differences such as different paint colours and different badges, ie. Audi S3 badges.

Why would you want Audi S3 badges on your brake calipers when it is fitted to a Skoda? Apart from the S3 brake calipers, you would also need matching brake caliper carriers if you wanted a cosmetic match.

The Audi S3 brake calipers are available in glossy black or red. They don't appear to be easily available new or refurbished, and using secondhand ones wouldn't have that new look.

Maybe just paint your Skoda brake calipers and brake caliper carriers. However, they soon get old and dirty looking so it seems a bit pointless unless the brake calipers are sticking or leaking and need rebuilding.

I have a red Skoda Superb Sportline and about to purchase some black aftermarket rims so was looking for some red calipers to contrast.  The stock brake calipers on the sportline even painted just don't look as good as the Golf R/Audi S3 ones.  Was after the flush/flat outer caliper rather than the disjointed stock OEM superb ones.  Like this:

Does anyone know where I can source a set of red calipers to fit the Superb Sportline (280 HP) fronts and rears please.  Don't wish to pay an arm and leg either.

Tps are doing the clubsport discs for about 380 a pair if you want them. Also clp tuning and awesome gti I think are around the same money.. the Zimmerman formula z are whet I have from AUTODOC and they need replacing after 50k miles (they are good) I’m pretty sure zimmerman make them for vw however the prices on them at the minute are crazy

The Octavia MK3 2.0 petrol RS 245HP uses red front and rear brake calipers that would fit, as it uses the same size 340mm front discs and 310mm rear discs.

The Octavia MK3 2.0 diesel VRS facelift uses 312mm front discs, so front brake calipers for these won't fit.

The Octavia MK3 2.0 petrol VRS 220HP and 230HP models and the Octavia MK3 2.0 diesel VRS use 272mm rear discs, so rear brake calipers for these won't fit.

However, it would probably be a lot cheaper to paint your current brake calipers and brake caliper carriers as the only difference appears to be the colour of the paint.
