Installing a Double Din Radio and Subwoofer

Featured Replies

Hi guys its been a while but god its been busy,my son has just past his test so were upgrading the stereo and active sub the weekend. we have a Kenwood DMX 120 BT to install but i can seem to find a remote cable on the back,i'm guessing i will piggy back of the main loom wiring harness for the radio and run it to the rear sub along with a cable directly from the battery, I'm assuming there should be somewhere in the boot i can access a good earth point.

Any other ideas ?

There is no Remote output on the OEM setup, if it's for the 2006 in your profile ? there is a +12v input anytime the key is in the ignition and that's the thin Brown/Red wire on pin 4 of the black connector.

One other thing to ensure the replacement radio doesn't cause problems with the cars diagnostic system is make sure the Grey/White wire on pin 3 of the Black connector is not connected to the replacement radio's wiring

whats the grey white wire do?

It's the K line diagnostic wire, and on some aftermarket radios if it's left connected it can cause problems

Hi chaps ive successfully installed the stereo and active subwoofer, however i now have an issue that ive noticed that the stereo loses its memory, this explains the wire that was very badly fitted to the wrong size of the fuse box when we purchased the car this was removed straight away as it was dangerous cant understand how the 2 factory fitted radio plugs haven't got a permeant feed to the radio so really need to get my head round this

There should be two Black/Blue wires on pins 5 & 7 of the Black connector that are fed from fuse #45 and that's a permanent supply

thanks Nige so the wire you mention should go to 1 of the pins on the back of my double din stereo ive attached a draing, does this make sense to you ?

The two Black/Blue wires on pins 5&7 in the OEM Black connector they need to go to your pin A-4  & the Brown/Red wire on Pin 4 of the OEM Black connector needs to go to your pin A-7, Pin A-5 will be the switched output required to switch on your remote sub

thanks nige8021, the oem conection pushes straight into my double din,, is it easy to remove the cable pins and re configure?

So if I'm right i can change pin number 4 and 7 round on the oem connector and all should be ok ??

at the moment the head unit is working but it doesn't retain its memory so believe the main supply from the battery isnt connected to the correct pin, just checking your superior knowledge before i give it a go later

Since pin 4 is shown as permanent (battery) power and pin7 as ignition power then swapping them should fix the forgetful memory problem.

Many aftermarket radios have bullet connectors to make the swap easier as it's very common to have to do it.
