Limited slip diff into 7 speed DQ200

Featured Replies

Has anyone carried this out ? results v cost ??

Toying with the idea

If you're serious enough about your driving to do track days then a LSD is always worth it, no single mod will knock as many seconds off your lap time.

Cheers, it's not track days that I'm aiming at but I do see an increase in wheel spin during "spirited" acceleration that the fabia is so good at, improved BHP needs some assistance

It's £1500 cheaper to exercise the proper degree of control over your right hoof!

😇

A LSD differential into a gearbox where the clutches wear heavily under general light use and the gearbox itself is intended for light use... not a good idea id say.

It might be worth seeing if you can enable XDS.  For example it's in Yeti ECU's from the factory but it's not enabled.  You can switch it on with VCDS and set it to Hard or Soft.  It does however shorten brake disc and pad like, if you drive like a hooligan....😇

@Schtum you peak my interest, where would I find XDS in vcds ?  Don't drive like a hooligan at 62 years old

You are but a youth, Sir. I have 7 years on you and I trust that I will never be too old to stop driving and riding a motorcycle like a hooligan....😇

To get into XDS on a Yeti you follow this procedure...

Yeti VCDS Coding for Brake Assist & XDS

In VCDS Select Control Module, go to (03) ABS Brakes, then (10) Adaptation, go to Channel:

Channel 09 Brake Assist (This will then activates Channel 36)

There are 3 settings:

0-center (stock setting)

1-small

2-hard

Channel 36 XDS

There are 3 settings:

0-center (stock setting)

1-weak

2-strong

The look on the face of the yoofs when going away at the lights is a giggle

The dq200 is made of chocolate the money would be better spent elsewhere like swapping from a dq200 to a dq250

I’m running a dq250 with an LSD in my fabia vrs as I was having the exact same issues as you say just spinning up at the lights etc, are you sure you are running the correct spec tyres on the front not some cheap compound tyres

Please let us know if you are able to enable XDS in your Fabia.

Doesn't actually state XDS but I can access the diff settings, and I've adjusted the hill start assist to be early

I'll update on the diff settings after I've driven it for some miles, Hill start assist on early makes it a much smoother pull away as it states it allows the brake hold off earlier as I accelerate

All good but nothing to do with the diff, just the brakes, I don't think you have an electronic diff on a FWD VRS, the Yeti has an electronically controlled Haldex so I'm not surprised that it can be enabled.

The MK2 vRS has XDS as standard and in the OP,s previous post on how to identify which gearbox are the threads on the available settings.  As it is on track it disabled it,s self when the brakes over heats.  You can adjust to suit, or turn it off.    Anyone looking at the above posts needs to remember there are the early settings and later ones as the op,s car with a cthe engine has.

The TC button needs a Press, and Holding in  second.  That just stops the brakes nipping on with wheel spin from the off.  As the owners manual tells, use when getting the car out of snow, or when snow chains fitted.  Or when you want wheel spin. Owners manual does not say last bit.

If XDS is just another stupid name for ESP which another stupid name for selectively applying the brakes at each corner via the ABS module then turn it off, it's crap and will ruin the driving experience.

It's certainly nothing like an ATB diff.

Even EDS.  Then later there is XDS+.

On FWD braking the spinning wheel transfers the torque to the wheel with traction, that is if there is any torque left after the system has cut the power, it's a very crude electronic diff.

My MK1 Octavia had it, it worked well but made the most horrible graunching noise that anyone with mechanical sympathy would choose to avoid, I always modulated the throttle at the point of wheelspin and could get away sharply across the junctions where traction and fast moving traffic was a problem.

The MK2 just cut the gas leaving me staring at the oncoming vehicle with goggle eyes, it would have been far safer with no intervention even with the most panicky and heavy right footed driver.

My Yeti should have XDS but I have never found it, probably due to not enabling brake assist, being 4wd it never loses traction anyway so I would prefer not to have a driven wheel being braked.

But what does Brake Assist do or supposed to do? I'm sure I have enabled it and noticed no difference.
