Do I need another DSG service?

Featured Replies

Morning folks

Took my 2006 PD130 with DSG in for a service today and afterwards the mechanic asked me if the DSG box had been serviced. Having checked the paperwork it appears it was done 6k ago at 87k. He commented that the box didn't feel smooth and had jolted when he set off (albeit feels fine to me however I haven't had one before)

Looking at the service record from the previous owner the DSG box had the oil and filter changed as well as a general service and the bill was £330.

My mechanic told me a DSG service should be £300 and the oil is £20 a litre. My bill shows the total oil cost for the DSG fluid being £39 plus vat?!

Does it look like my DSG service was done with improper oil and I should look at getting it done again? A local specialist quotes £170 on their website and Skoda themselves £254.... My chap therefore sounds rather pricey! The dual clutch was changed last year I believe.

Whilst I don't want to spend more on an old car, equally I want the gearbox to last well!

Many thanks as always

Genuine DSG fluid from Skoda/VW is around £20 a litre.

You can get 5L of DSG oil to the same specification from other oil manufacturers for around £40

Looking at the breakdown of the other items, I would say it has been serviced properly at a very reasonably priced garage.

Thank you for such a helpful reply and sorry I didn't get back on here sooner!

That's very useful to hear- sounds like a good job done then.

The car has a full folder of receipts like this- I think it's had 4 cambelts in its 16 years!

Looks like they accidentally charged for one litre of dsg oil, not 5 or 6!

It does look like that. But if they charged 5l, £200 also seems very pricey just for fluid.

Why not give the servicing garage a call, ask what fluid they use, I don't recognise tt312...
