Bulb out warning on dash, all light working, coding maybe?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm hoping somebody could help with a BCM issue.

My car is a 2011 Octavia 1.6 BSE estate

My BCM module is: 1K0937087AB

I have a warning light on my dash for a bulb for the tail lights but on both sides, I've checked the tail lights and they all work including the 2 w5w bulbs on each side.

Could this be an issue with the coding, it's a replacement BCM and I've copied all the coding over.

On coding on Byte 18 on lighting there's a few different options of vag cars, the only Octavia option there is is for bi-xenon.

Is there any other coding or any type of reset I can do for the BCM.

It's not a major issue but I thought it would be handy to have it cleared so I can always have a heads up when a light does actually go.

Don't touch byte 18 is it's set to 00!! Changes are irreversable and you'll probably need a trip to a dealer or someone with ODIS-e/VCP to fix it...

The 2011 owners manual I have suggests you should be using W3W bulbs not W5W. I'd change those to the correct bulb and see if it resolves the warnings:

Thanks for the response, I think that's where I went wrong, for some reason my old BCM wasn't set to 00 on Byte 18, so when I've copied the coding to the new one it's changed byte 18.

Turns out there was actually lights not coming on at the back, it was the 2 bottom ones, because they wasn't on I was guessing it was the brake lights, I ended up checking some different car presets on byte 18 before seeing this, and it kind of got a little bit weird, definitely irreversible, and couldn't go back.

It ended up with no front side lights but the reverse light as a drl. And then swapped to rear fog light as a drl.

But I got lucky on this one I tried "Skoda superb combi with separate drl" coding 31, and luckily all the light are working as they should with no bulb out light.

In the future I'll definitely leave byte 18 alone, I didn't know about them being w3w I changed all the bulbs when I got the car in may so I won't need to worry about them going anytime soon, I seen the small bulbs and assumed they was w5w just of the look of them, I might change them to w3w thro just to keep the voltage happy on the BCM :)
