bulbs

Featured Replies

hi all

getting my karoq next weekend looking for a list of bulbs used

as I'm looking to upgrade (North east scotland) lots of dark night and back roads

i understand that head lights are h7 (the car is non led headlights) I'm using these in my yeti at the moment

H7 Twenty20 Daylight bulbs

so i would like to fit if possible led taillights/indicators?

and what are the interior bulbs??

many thanks

Stu

@stuupnorth Would it not be best to see what the car comes with and how they are in the back of beyond when dipped or on full beam and that they all work before changing any of them?

I promptly replaced the original H7 bulbs with Philips X-treme Vision, but saw no gain to speak of.

I switched to osram night breaker 150s on our Kodiaq which helped but the biggest improvement was from raising the aim to the upper limit as they were far too low initially

I haven’t blown a bulb for many years.

But on my bike I replaced H7 headlamp bulbs with HID bulbs and turned night into day.

I have used both Osram Nightbreaker and Phillips extreme vision as replacements on a TVR and the improvement was marginal but there is a downside because  both bulbs are basically standard bulbs overrun i.e.  do not last very long.

Be aware that for cars later than 1986 changing the bulb type from QI to LED or HID in housings not designed specifically for LED or HID is contrary to legislation and could fail an MOT.

I think the HID/LED rule regarding MOT tests was knocked on the head very quickly after the GOV was reminded how many old Classic vehicles had been fitted with such lights which were far more efficient (read green too).

My HID lamps have passed many MOT tests.

The cut off is 1986 so cars before that date are exempt.

It depends how keen your MOT tester is but cars after this date could fail if an inappropriate bulb is used in the wrong type of housing.
