Headlamp convertors

Featured Replies

Anyone got a design that I can make with gaffa tape while waiting at the ferry, 'cos I'm tight?

I'd be happy with a 'photo of the front of the car with them fitted, and I'll work it out from there.

Cheers

Same here - anyone got an example of them fitted to Fabia headlamps??

I've got a Halfords kit that the olds let me borrow, but the template does seem a bit random.

Anyone??

I've got a newer Halfords template which just says to attach a small circle over the edge of the dipped beam position at 220 degrees.

Does this sound suitable?

Yes it does...

Just come back from France so I can enlighten you.

Cut a circular piece of tape about 2 - 3 inches in diameter. If you look head on at your headlights crouched down, find the main beam bulb and stick the tape in the seven o'clock position so that it overlaps the main beam bulb by about half a centimetre. When you've done, they should both be in the same position on both lamps. Applies to all Fabias 2000 onwards I believe.

Not quite sure how that deflects the light to the right instead of the left, must be something to do with all the reflective panels in the light - but that's what the Halfords kit says - and nobody flashed me in 2200 miles.

That's handy to know - my crossing is in 5 hours time :D

Ive got a template that it an a4 sheet, give us an email with details where you want it sent.....

I won't, it's its meant to do is stop you dazzling oncoming traffic. ;)

Not sure why you refer to the main beam - surely it's the dipped beam which dips to the LEFT that needs adjusting not to dazzle the oncoming LHS traffic.

I've just returned from France but did very little driving with lights on; just as well as 1 convertor had peeled off in the rain.

It would be a good if someone could produce a PDF document showing the ares to be blanked off.

Perhaps? if I get the time!!!!

Ive just come back from Europe, and had this little circular sticky silver things put on, i decided to just stick them on anywhere which was logically sensible, i then lowered the beam angle to the lowest it would go to minimise dazzel. Worked fine but i didn't do that much night time driving.

From what i made out of the driving in Belguim and Holland, they drive so close to your bumperover there that you virtually dont need light reflectors, just use the car infronts bumper to block your light.

Really found the 130kmph speed limit fantastic though, going 80ish-mph is so much better than 70mph.

You're right - but I know what I meant !!

I've just got back from the south of France so am a bit lacking in sleep!

I meant the dipped beam, but my point was, normally car lights shine slightly to the left for our driving on UK roads. In France this would mean they dazzle people coming the other way - who are to the left of us. I couldn't understand why the sticky things went to the left of the dipped beam bulb in the seven o'clock position as you look at the lights as they would be on the right hand side of the headlights when you're behind the wheel - and you want to deflect the beam to the right !!

Does that make sense?

I think you should view the problem from the postion of the reflective surface of the lamps & not the bulbs. Commercial deflectors have a fresnal pattern to further deflect the dipped beam when placed correctly.

Still haven't had time to do the diagram - Sorry.

Michael.

See sticky post for a file that you can print to show areas to be masked.

Andy

Sorry

I don't know where or how to find the "sticky post"

Thanks anyway

Michael.

Have a look at the top of the fabia forum and you see a post "headlamp masks"....

I used the Halfords Round patch on the BMW (Xenons) Drove 2500 miles and in Slovenia you have to have your lights on during the day!! NOT ONE PROBLEM!!No one flashed me and they didnt seem to light up to the left much at all. GET SOME. Theyre good!!
