Help - Levelling lights MAD springs

Featured Replies

I had some MAD auxillary springs installed. Which I’m pretty happy with.

However, my self levelling lights stopped working. Still doing the start up dance, but pointing very low.

I took the car back to the installers and asked them to check the sensor connector. They had a look, it had come apart, so they took it all out, snapped it together firmly, and put it back.

I didn’t drive at night for 2 weeks, then regrettably discovered my lights are still pointing low, and when I speed up, they don’t get higher (which they used to do.
I tried, using MFD, to factory reset and switch to travel mode, with no effect. The lights moved sideways, but not up.

It’s going back to the mechanic in the morning.
Does anybody have any suggestions, other than connector might have come apart again?

Is there a VCDS reset requirement? The spring installer is not a VW specialist and may not have the tool.

I wonder if the car now sits lower the wishbone the levelling adjuster is fitted to is reading that you are lower. Maybe see if the link between the leveller and wishbone can be shortened to compensate

It will if anything be sitting higher but your comments are still valid.

Perhaps there is some calibration set up to be done with the vehicle at normal ride height? It may have been done before with the sagging springs.

I've had no issues with MAD springs and auto-levelling on the headlights. Check the condition of both ride height sensors, including cycling them while monitoring the detected position in Measuring Blocks on VCDS.

If this checks out, you may need to adjust the mechanical aim of the headlights. The MAD springs will affect the rear ride height (bringing it back to where it should be) and if the headlights were last adjusted on a sagging rear end, they'll be pointing down now.

Definitely check the sensors are ok and working.  I think if one fails the lights default to their lowest aim settings

Update. I got it back yesterday evening, haven’t driven at night yet, but my confidence is low.

The lights are still dancing. They seem higher when the dance stops (against a wall)

HOWEVER….

the high beam was really high up.
when I picked it up, they said it was sorted, an adjustment at the back and they proudly informed me that they “managed to get a bit more at the front!”
me: “oh no, they are speed sensitive and raise higher at speed”

mechanic: “oh, ri…, 🤔 oh. …See how it goes.”

I think I might just ask the Skoda garage to fix it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
