fabia mk2 1.6 diesel going into limp mode when driving hard up hills

Featured Replies

Living an a hilly area I have found that if I go to about 2.5 to 3k revs. i get a flicker of the spiral warning light and the car then goes into lmp mode . If I turn the ignition off, the fault disappears. Ny ideas on what that might be

Hi had this issue wuth a 1.9TDI same sort of issue, after a while it got worse ligt would come on more regular and then it would take 2-3 ing turn off and back on to get it to work so bit the bullt and started a check list, went through the air intake looking for leaks tried the EGR unit and gave it a clean  tried a turbo cleaner in the fuel still not resolved, most people were saying turbo vaines were stuck so went to investigate, I noticed then that the turbo actuator was not pulling a full stroke when I connected it up to a vacumn pump (used my brake bleeder vac pump) and as most said thouht the turbo was clogged up but it turned out to be the actuator itself, bought a pattern part aroung £60 changed this and car was back to normal, dealership told me turbo was gone and to have it replaced was around £1,100 plus vat, spent around £150 altogether doing it myself car was perfect as before but we now have a MK3 as it was written off by uninsured driver

Does it happen more frequently during the warm up period and rarely when the engine is hot?

If so then it will be sticking turbo vanes or actuator or both.

A Mr Muscle enema is the magic resolution!

Mk 2 1.6 TDI uses an electronic actuator and these can give problems, new ones are available but not from VAG, fitting a new one will require software adaptation.

The car has done several miles before this happens. I had a rav4 for a while and that had the same problem, someone had fitted a new vacuum control on the turbo but it was not set to that particular turbo. After a great deal of trial and error, I managed to get the correct setting sorted and this cured the problem. could this be the same problem

It could, as I've already told you, so rather than repeat myself perhaps you should get the existing actuator re-adapted then if that fails you can just replace it.

Many thanks everyone. for your help, I am going to the dealers tomorrow and as the car is under warranty, hopefully he can fix the problem. I do not know whether he will take in your comments or he is up to speed with this sort of thing.
