Service at 6500 miles?

Featured Replies

Hello there!

I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I post a thread in the wrong place. ;) I live in Norway, but I think this is the biggest Skoda forum on the net, so I thought I should register here. I own a Skoda Fabia 2005 1.2 HTP, with 10660 kms on the clock. Two days ago my fancy little display underneith the speedometer gave me some worrying information: A monkey wrench and the number 6400 km behind it. After a couple of seconds, a small clock and the number 28 appeared. What does this mean? I know my Fabia has variable service interval, but I've only driven it 10k! That's about 6k miles. Does this mean I have to get a service done within 6400 kms or within 28 days? I'm a little confused.

Pardon my bad english, and thanks for all answers. :)

Its a bit of guess wok as we dont run variable on Fabias over here.

But id say either your car is due a service, or your service light hasnt been set properly (more than likely). I'd advise you to get your dealer to check it out.

Thanks Lummox, I'll call the dealer tomorrow to ask them. But I know they'll just tell me I have to get a service done or I loose the warranty. They're a bunch of liers.

Quick update: I went to the dealer today, and the mechanic said that it was running a little low on oil, so he refilled and resetted the service interval warning thingie. It's supposed to go to 30,000 kms or 2 years between each service. Now it will start counting from 0 again, so I'll just have to contact them myself at 30,000.

Thanks for the feedback. Your next service will be due at the latest at 2 years from the last one or 30,000km minus 10,660km (or whatever the reading was when the service indicator was reset to zero), whichever comes first - unless the service indicator comes on before either of those are reached! Just like the good old days when you worked out service intervals yourself! :(

Ummmm.....there is NO car manufacturer in the world who make cars than can run up 30,000kms without a service in between. It is absolutely impossible. Skoda's and VAG cars are usually serviced every 15,000kms.

Well, my car has a variable service interval system. It's supposed to tell me when it needs servicing. It measures particles in the oil or something. It can go "up to" 30,000 kms between each service. The diesel engines can go up to 50,000 kms, in theory. Mine said it needed a service at 10,000 kms, which is a bit early. I went down to the dealer, they measured the oil, just refilled a little, and resetted the service timer. Then they told me I could drive until 12th of May next year (2 years from I bought the car) or until I hit 30,000 km, whichever came first. Their explenation for the early service warning lamp was that the car had been in "stock" for a while before I bought it, if you know what I mean. I'll just do as they tell me, but I think the whole thing was a little strange aswell.

Hmmm..

Well I do remember that I had to take my car in when I first bought it after 5,000kms, just for a quick check up, but after that they told me to bring it in at 15,000kms, and from there on every 15,000kms.

I don't know man, sounds weird 30,000kms to me.

You might want to tell that to my Octy, which just had 27k Miles not km between services.

Mil, there are plenty of cars on 20,000 mile fixed interval services (thats 32,000km). There are quite a few on variable that can do 27,000 miles on variable servicing (thats 43,200km).

So :P .

;)

Even the new 987 Boxster is now on 20K mile servicing.

My old octy had its first service at 18K miles, and second was at 38K IIRC.

Wow

I wish my car was like that :(

Think your car might need more frequent service due to arduous conditions servicing being in use Mil. Sand/dust and a lot more heat means servicing is required more frequently. Well this was in the handbook for older cars I drove.

I recall Turbo_Boss saying that his Skoda dealer in the Republic of Panama insists on a 5,000km service interval although Skoda want it to be 10,000km.

That could be because of tough and bad roads and a difficult climate perhaps. I think the service interval varies in different countries. So does the guarantee. Mine has three years guarantee and 10 years guarantee for the paint. That's in Norway. How is it in UK?

3 and 3 with 10 for anti perforation.
