Car Air Purifier (since we don't have filter inside the cabin)

Featured Replies

Gentlemen, have you ever heard or use devices like these?

Have you seen them on a car?

Does worth to buy and install one in our Old car since we don't have inside the cabin filter as other Skoda models?

Never seen the like, I guess they would not be much use in a soft-top with the roof down or tin-top with a window(s) open.

Philips is a well known name but how much are the filters, TelslaAir better with cleanable filters but another box with a wire out of it and what secures it to the dash - oh that is covered in the second video, I am amazed an American has not sued them.  Sharp another well known name.

Unless it can dealt with the black sh1te that comes out of VWs, particularly Audi, diesels I would not bother personally.

In the early 80s ionizers of that size were the thing then, put by the bedside.

If you have struggled without one then get one and see.

Look my outside the cabin filter.

The hairs are from dogs which some have them in their balcony.

I am worrying for what is passing through it and comes inside the air vents.

Fair enough.

But what are you going to wear when outside of the car's cabin.  If you want one then get one, perhaps someone might see the thread who has one and reply but I think the odds are not good, be good if I am proven wrong (again).

Good luck.

OMG. That's an air hairifier. Your concern is well placed.

Also, if any of that hair find a way to pass that filter, they will either wind around the ventilation fan shaft and cause a failure or get shredded to smaller pieces which could be inhaled more easily. Dog/cat hair is known to cause health problems when inhaled.

Below the factory sponge filter i have added a layer from filter of kitchen hood, an example:

I did it as an extra layer of protection but still i worry because this patent can not compared to a cabin filter.

Good solution. Better than standard factory sponge. When I bought the car, there wasn't a sponge. Only a mesh. I used a dense sponge from a vacuum cleaner to install there.

Vacuum cleaners also have HEPA filters. HEPA filters are recommended for pet owners. Maybe you can craft an adapter inside the air entrance channel to fit one of the standard common vacuum cleaner HEPA filters. Water retention will be problem though. You'll want to change and wash the filters regularly to prevent bacteria growth.

The sponge that Felicia has is with Activated Carbon

good when it's new but after some years becomes fragile.

I wash mine 1-2 times per year but as you can see in the oval sides it's not ''sealed'' and maybe some air comes inside the vents.

That's why i put the extra kitchen hood filter.

Older photo: when i removed the sponge, as you can see there is no adequate depth to install something else.

This dirt make me creap.

Blimey are you a fan/discipline of the likes of Novaxz Joke-a-blitz, some very minor health problems for a few people and less minor for a very few others.  If owners actually feed their pets suitable food there would be much less hair loss for the majority of pets.

At least this type of stuff you can see the sh!te that comes out of our car exhaust is among the ****e that's less visible (unless it's a VW , Audi diesel) sh1te that is doing a lot more harm to those on the roads and pavements and quite a distance from them too.

If anyone needs or wants more protection for whatever they think they need that's fine, different strokes for different folks.

It's very difficult to adapt a filter like this inside the case that i already have because it's oval shape.

Skoda didn't think us at all when Felicia created.

I can not find or i can not imagine a way to put an extra filter to work as Cabin filter.

No, sir. Of course not. If one is not allergic to it, inhaling pet hair won't cause a problem but continuous exposure is risky. Just like other pollutants in the air like you have mentioned. I should've added that line. "continuous exposure"  @D.FYLAKTOS 's description fits a continuous exposure scenario. The neighbors could be dumping their dog's hair from balcony or windows after grooming. Pets are not the ones to blame. Irresponsible owners does.

Also, all kinds of dust, debris, tree leaves, bird feathers get trapped in air channels if they pass the filter. This kind of accumulation leads to unwanted odor. Especially in high humidity during winter.

I know this, because; I've personally experienced and dealt with this problem in the past summer.

This is the part that collected all kinds of unwanted trash:

https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/felicia/fel/2000-101/8/820-820000/

There was lots of bird feathers, fossilized tree leaves and plant related stuff. A handful of soil and/or dust.

I completely stripped the interior floor, washed, cleaned and painted with a heavy coat of rust preventive paint. I also washed the floor carpet and most importantly I washed the thick and heavy insulation material under the carpet. Of course I washed them out of the car. On a clean balcony floor with enough water and cleaning agents to completely soak and drain 30 years worth of dirt.

I think your current solution is good. Just change the custom filter on a regular basis and you are done.

The end of this plastic part goes where?

There is some kind of bottom which we car reach and clean the remains?

@R_Blue my post wasn't meant to be entirely serious, other than pets getting feed rubbish food that means they do not always have good coats and skin and shed a lot.  I'd no idea what slobs and litterers you have, fur/hair even from poorly feed animals squashes down to next to nothing to take very little waste bin space.

I think protecting your own health is pretty important but there are limits but as with car problems health problems need proper diagnosis from the experts I can one-thousand-percent tell you that from personal experience.  Separately, only yesterday my wife told me of her friend's husband who had collapsed they thought with Anaphylactic shock and was under hospital care.  He as a young lad had seen his father suffer the same thing from mushrooms so all his life he would not touch mushrooms and so neither does his own daughter.  He was tested for food allergies and from what my wife was told it was practically all foods  - but not including mushrooms!

That night my wife went to an Xmas meal and for decades she has got a sniffy or running nose from eating or drinking but now it's from first thing when she gets up in the morning.  An ex-dentist was at the meal and noticed the use of tissues and said it was not uncommon and to deep breath menthol before even getting out of bed.  She has not had the opportunity to to get any to try.

So get tested, it might be dog hairs and other crap your residents think of as city life or it might be something else or that and something else.

Yeah and do you get your money back if it doesn't work after a nebular explosion. 🤣

The farthest end reaches to the middle of the front seats. There are exits faced towards sides of the car. Air is directed to the underside of the front seats. If your air channels are good, when the air is directed to underside from console controls, there is a sufficient warm air supply for rear passengers feet.

You can try to vacuum from one end by closing other end.

I have seen them, these 2 exits are blocked from the floors carpet (plus that i have added an insulation) so it's a matter of time a hair or a leaf to stay down there and stuck forever.

I also worry about the moisture on that spot.

I have seen in the front of the air channel was a small plastic square cap, maybe is to remove it and put inside the end of the vacuum hose to suck everything it can?

In my case, the floor carpet has shaped cuts to fit the air channel openings. They are open without any restriction. In my opinion, they should be open because it's a feature.

I don't recommend removing that part.

The upper part that you've pointed with green arrow is inserted in a large slot from its upper end. If you pull it down you might dislocate it but its very hard to work in that space without removing center console. If you won't be able to replace it in its place, you will lose front passenger/driver feet warming feature too. (The air will be directed without guidance)

I don't think you can clean it from there too. Its a tight space. Also, you will be working in the vicinity of some of the cable work. Especially the stereo.  Your efforts may not provide any noticeable effect too.

For a through cleaning, air guidance channel must be removed and cleaned with running water. (Preferably hot)

Stripping interior floor is easy but it consumes time.

I have seen those U shape cuts, i will double check it and remove any restriction from the insulation

I don't dare to do it myself, it's too many things that i have to remove.

My consol is full of gauges-cables-switches etc plus noise insulation and i can't do this kind of work in the side of the street.

From time to time i remove the sponge filter and spray some Dettol inside plus once per two years i clean the aircondition system with spray.

What kind of material did you use for sound insulation? Did it work?
