Retro Fit Parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi I'm considering having the front & rear parking sensors retro fitted to our vRS as SWMBO is not happy parking it:mad: ! Mind you I wont be happy if she "dings" it!

So I have a few questions!

I have seen a "sigma" set in our dealers parts dept, are these just "aftermarket ones" or the ones listed in the parts catalog (service manager couldn't answer that). They didn't look like the factory fit ones (they actually looked a bit tacky), and I was told they didn't link into the Stream system

If I fit the "genuine ones", do they look like the factory fit items & do they integrate with the Stream HU?

Also if I fit the front ones does it have the correct dash switch to activate them only when parking?

I know that Skoda have only just advised that this can be done on a vRS

Finally anyone had this done (to any mk II Octy) & got any pics, this would help me to decide!!

Not sure if this is the same for all retrofit kits, but my local dealer fitted one to a 4x4 estate driven by one of the guys at my work. From the outside it looks like it was factory fitted, but it doesn't integrate with the Stream radio and the beeper is at the back of the car.

Having said that, it does work well - just not quite the same as the one factory fitted to my car!

The propper Skoda kit for the Octavia 2 is made by Cobra and is a very good (and easy to fit) system.

Mazda use the same kit as thier official accessory and its better than the old Octavia 1 kit.

The 'Cobra' octy 2 kit I fitted a while back...

Painted to match, look quite smart. I will admit though the second set I did I spaced them out a bit better than that.

I had rear parking sensors dealer fitted and they look as if they came from the factory.

Not a problem.

There is a chance in the time that i have been away from Skoda that the kit has changed. But I still maintain the Cobra kit is pretty darn good.

Sorry to take this slightly OT but I have a question for Lummox on the Octy 1 retro fit kit. In the instructions it shows the sensors can be painted and appears to show that the rubber outer part can be painted. Is this correct or is it best just to paint the centre circle?

Not sure as the sensors are usually fitted in the black rubbing strip so we never painted them.

I would have thought the paint wouldnt last long on a rubber surface.

Thanks everyone. The pictures also helped! I know it will sound daft, but I assume they only activate when you select reverse? A mate of mine had a set fitted to his motor and they are on all the time! They even go off in traffic when another car approaches! Scared the bit out of me!

Will have a talk to the dealer about them, any one done the front ones as well?

The ones retrofitted to the work's 4x4 are only active when reversing. The unit gives a little bleep when selecting reverse gear to let you know its active.

Hope this helps!

He's fitted them wrongly then I suspect.

They are simple devices which are initiated by the 12v sent to the reversing lamp by the switch on the gearbox.

The newer factory ones on the Octy II etc are a bit more involved and use a control unit as well.

Thanks.

No rubbing strip to mount them in on the estate though.

That's what I thought but the illustration on the instructions seems to show otherwise. As my car is black I don't think the rubber ring will be that noticable anyway.

Mine aren't painted Eddy and you don't hardly see them. I've done another Octy in black and they were ok.

Some of the fabia ones can be seen here

Sure they'll look fine, I just like to worry. Will hopefully get round to fitting them when I get the car back.
