Skoda Fabia MK II 2011 - Windscreen washer not working/pump not sounding

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm a first time car owner with a 2011 Fabia Elegance. Since two days ago my windscreen washer pumps haven't been sounding and no screenwash is passing through.

The wipers operate after as if the pumps work, I tried checking the fuse (I believe fuse 40?) But looks fine.

I was wondering what the potential causes could be or if I missed anything. I bought the car a few weeks ago with 16.5k miles on the clock. AA and HPI checked in October.

Sorry in advance for my ignorance , car ownership is very new to me and I'm not the most savvy at the moment!

Thank you all!

You might not need to do anything yet as this happens after the weather is freezing because the pump is below the nearside wing out in the cold, we have had this happen before and found the only way to stop it is to use full strength windscreen wash not the mixed sort some people just use water and this happens all the time, if the pump has gone or connections are bad  you will have to remove the lower panel under the wing and front nearside wheel and the front  part of the wheel liner to get at it, on our MK3 I just waited untill it thawed out and kept washing the screen untill empty then re-filled with concerntrated screen wash in winter time and not had an issue since, in the sunmmer just go back to the mixed type

It does not have to be Ready Mix,  if it is the to - 5 is no use if colder, or -10 if colder.

You get concentrate that you mix with H20 that will be good at -15 or lower.  You just have to mix to the correct ratio.   Same as you do with Anti Freeze.

If you want to use the Screen wash straight you can.  As it is it might well not come out the nozzles when low enough below freezing or just freeze on the screen.  Might still be liquid in the washer bottle though.

Welcome to the forum,

I would top up the tank with some pure concentrated screenwash (not ready mix) and let it dwell for a few hours and try again.

That fuse looks ok, so the pump doesn't appear to have blown that, but could be a wire has gone kaput, so no power is getting to the motor.

If you have a spare sprayer bottle, that is clean, you could make a mix to carry with you temporarily so you can pull over and clean off the screen (if not a sprayer, then any old drinks bottle) throw some on screen and operate wipers.

You do get 'Ready Mix' that is to -23 *oC,  even to Minus 70*oC which comes branded VW / Audi.

The thing about ready mix is that it might not get bacteria building up.

But,

whatever you use you have to take care, not all are compatible with each other and some end up with a jelly type mess that block the pipes.

Thank you for the help so far, assuming it's a wire or similar would it be a garage job or is it a fix one can do at home  ? If it's located under a wing I'm assuming it's a garage job. I'll put some concentrate in tonight, the weird thing is during the freeze we had it worked OK,  it's since warmed up and the issue has started !

Does anyone know if MKII has the same location ?
