Battery Charging

Featured Replies

Have a 19 plate Octavia Estate. Bought a Ring charger a year ago (just in case) Thought I would try it out the other day. Checking my manual, it says the Negative lead should be attached to a 'fixing point ' just behind the battery. Couldn't quite make out the picture shown, but did look like this was an attachment (Ground?) point for Neg leads from battery. So am I correct in thinking this L shaped bracket is the connection point for charger?

So why not Neg to Neg on battery?

You are bypassing the car's own battery monitor connection to the negative pole if you do, so it won't know the amount of energy in the battery.

You will see the sensor attached there.

Yup, the L shaped bracket is where you attach clamp for negative charging clamp.

So you can undo the nut and attach a permanent wire there for quick-release charge wire.

Thanks for your quick response.

Don't really know what you mean by attaching a permanent wire.

There are hardwire kits you can fit with a quick release coupling.  So when you want to charge to plug in quicker.

If you use the crocodile style clamps, then ignore that as you won't be hardwired, just a temporary connection.
