New owner- help

Featured Replies

Picked up a used 70 (2021) plate Karoq SE L on Saturday I wonder if anyone could advise on a couple of problems I am getting.

1.  Can’t seem to complete registering myself as primary user

Get as far as clicking the open buttons on the keys and just fails to complete.

2. Is this the current software version and if not how do I go about updating it.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this is not the right group.

How do I tell which MIB I have I assume I have MIB3 as there is no SD card slot and there are 2 USB-C ports below the climate controls?

It's a MIB3, and there's an update to 0278.

But don't expect it to fix the issue, as there are lots of threads about errors during user reg.

The software update has to be done by a dealer, and takes quite a time to download. Generally it will only be done if you report a problem which can be cured by the update, and not as standard. (Despite the annual service apparently checking to see if the software is up to date!)

For registering as the primary user, have you deleted any previous registered users from the car?

Thanks there were no other users listed when I picked the car up.  I already had a MySKODA account previous car was a 2017 Octavia deleted that and tried to add the Karoq get to the point of activating the vehicle but can’t seem to complete that as I’m having problems adding myself as primary user, I have been trying while the car is in the garage and is connected to my home Wi-Fi network.

It might be worth trying to connect via its inbuilt SIM out in the open air. That's how I did mine. But this really emphasises that sales people need to give their customers more support in using the software built in to modern cars.

If you use it’s built in sim don’t you need to have a data plan from some where?  I had a look in the section of the menu about data and it said to need to be a primary user to select a data plan, kind of a catch 22 there.

No, Skoda provide a restricted data plan for you. It's required to provide online updates for the maps and some software in the car, and to keep the SOS function working.  The only need I've found for an extra (and expensive) dataplan is if you want to use the Web Radio - which you can also access via your mobile phone if you really want to.

Thanks CJJE how is that accessed?

The built-in SIM?

It should be automatically connected, unless you have redirected it to your home WiFi, but you can check via the Menu / Settings / Data Connection / Integrated data connection (eSIM) settings. I was able to set mine up by following the Online Services section of the owner's manual carefully, But I didn't already have a Skoda ID etc so was doing it completely from scratch.

I may be completely wrong and I can’t find the relevant thread now but I’m sure I’ve read on here somewhere that when setting up Connect for the first time you have to have both key fobs in the car?

Correct. My copy of the owner's manual states "To complete the activation it is necessary to have two original vehicle keys with you." (Page 159 in mine, under Online Services, User registration and activation of the Skoda Connect services.)

Chris

Thanks for the clarification, glad I wasn’t imagining it!

I haven’t even got my Škoda yet but I’ve read so much stuff on here these last few weeks about things that could possibly affect my vehicle. (A Karoq when I finally get it…)

@LesG - hopefully I can help as the same issue was a nightmare for me,  but through sheer perseverance I (more than the dealer who bless them tried their best across 2-3 attempts but admitted they did not know how to solve it!) managed to resolve it so hopefully the below thread may help you  - check the last post or two from the thread as from memory it was all a bit of trial and error - if you have only 1 skoda id, suggest you just try resetting password or if that does not work try alternative/new skoda id?

That software is definitely not the latest software as it has a known issue preventing online map updates amongst other things - I know that because it was my installed from new software & has since been updated by the dealer at least twice - my current software is something like 0302 or 0306 (my car is not at home to check) - my maps now update  - you do need to also have a valid skoda connect subscription for online map updates though  and in turn you need to be the primary user to activate skoda connect in the first place

To all who replied to my request thanks very much for your help.  I’m still getting problems so I sent an email to ŠKODA support detailing the problem along with screen shots the reply I got from them gave me a procedure to follow and a request for more photos.  I followed the procedure still failed and sent the photos and a short video they requested got an email back on Thursday saying technical support have passed this onto a service partner? who will be in contact, I’m guessing this will a garage or dealer so will need to wait and see.

I really loved my previous ŠKODA a my2017 Octavia but I am not so sure of this car over the last week have had that 📞 sos error thankfully both have been cleared by turning off power and leaving for about 10-20 mins, I get the feeling all these problems are related to the MIB3 infotainment unit.

mistac thanks a lot I’m sure that will be helpful I’ll wait and see what the service partner says if they get in contact.

In a nutshell yes it is most likely the MIB3, waaaay to many stories of these bugging out.

@LesG

So Skoda Specialist Car, Myrekirk road, part of the John Clark Group.   Did you not already ask them?

All the best with things.

Update.

I had a call from ŠKODA on Monday 27th the chap basically advised me to take it into a dealer and thought it might be cured by a software update.  Contacted the local ŠKODA dealer took the car down was looked at by some guy who was apparently their go to guy for the system he agreed that yes indeed there was a problem that might be fixed by a software update that should also cure the sos error problem.  So dropped it into them this morning for the update so we shall see.

toot, it is the dealer at Myrekirk road but I didn’t buy the car from them got it from Arnold Clark Vauxhall in Stirling.

The Warranty is with Skoda and any approved repairer is all that is needed.

Avoiding an Arnold Clark Dealership / Workshop is a good thing.

I just had a pretty usual experience this morning @ the Service Centre Dock street.  How they have 4.6 on Trust Pilot is beyond me.

They will likely be in touch wanting me to change my review when it gets read by heid yins.

UPDATE

The problem have finally been resolved, eventually a customer relations manager from Skoda UK got involved a very nice lady called Charlotte who spoke with the factory and the garage got some checks and software updates done and I can now become the Primary user and it would appear the update to 0306 has fixed the SOS fault.

So just one remaining, still can’t manually upload missing DAB station logos.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice and commented on this thread.
