Has this car been been in an accident?

Featured Replies

I'm looked at buying this very clean looked octavia vRS but one thing that concerns me is the paintwork under the bonnet. You can see primer behind the panels which makes me think it's not the original bonnet as the factory paint normally covers all the surfaces, and that it's a spare which has been resprayed after accident repair. Does anyone know of their Octavia paintwork goes behind the panels?

That’s normal . Most vw branded cars are like this especially after 2013

Unless the colour coat is dipped or electrostatically applied it is impossible to paint all of the enclosed areas such that the primer cannot be seen from any angle.

If it has been repaired at least they used a new bonnet, and painted it like the factory does !

Run the reg number through hpi or car vertical.

I just bought an Octavia 3, and looked at about 4 others seriously before choosing the one I got. Found previous cat N report on one and mileage discrepancy on another.

You get 2 reports for about £15

Edit : I used a discount code from a YouTube channel I watch, salvage rebuilds uk

code SR10 gets 10% off.

Thanks for all the helpful responses, really useful advice. I would have assumed that they did electrostatically paint but it sounds like they don't always.

As to HPI,s, never expect a factory repair pre or post being in transit mode to be on record as having a repair.   If in doubt of a car from a dealership or any place else and paint then get it measured.  The Skoda dealerships can do that if a Skoda Approved car.  Then ask them to confirm if the paint / repair is to the specification / factory approved repair standard.    This is for the Corrosion Warranty.  Since at Services many dealers are not carrying out body inspection and reports and then Skoda UK come away with no record of the required body inspections. Not that the Warranty says these are required.
