USB.......Data or just charge??

Recommended Posts

Look in ur infotainment screen for available media sources - if u both USB1 and USB2 options, then the one in ur armrest is the data port version.

Otherwise it will b just a charging port.

I won't have the car until Friday.

I got one of those Carsifi wireless Android Auto Dongles........I'm using it at the moment plugged into the ashtray aux/usb but I'd rather have it out of the way in the armrest storage.  My current 2016 L&K only has the one in the ashtray.

If it's factory fitted, then it is usually an additional data port.

Handy to have.

Mine doesn't have it under the armrest, but I plan to retrofit it one day.

It's requires a USB splitter/hub module, additional wiring and the USB port itself.

I have an AAWireless device, and it sits perfectly above the USB port in the front, next to the phone box.

I can even close the cover to keep it out of sight.

Do you have a special config in your AAWireless? Saw yours and bought one, but mine is always rebooting for no reason

No, nothing special config wise.

Only thing I've changed is the shut off timeout (WiFi Settings) and Start-Stop settings.

My AAWireless device has been really good - no issues whatsoever.

That's exactly where I plan to put the Carsifi Dongle......the dimensions are a little different but it will fit there.

On a different note.......the wireless charging pad looks a little small, are you limited on what phone will fit?

My Samsung S20 fits in fine and charges........I'd say any of these "plus" or "ultra" model phones and it would be a no no.

My USB question has been answered..........the feckin car doesn't have one (an option box not ticked I'd say) but it has the blank where it should be........I wonder how much hassle it would be for someone who knew what they where doing???

Tis a bit of a hassle, but doable.

If u want to retrofit it, u basically need the following:-

- 5G003595D - USB HUB to 3 ports

- 3G0035643- holder of the HUB

- 5G0035222E - Volkswagen MIB2 Carplay USB/AUX Port Audio Input Socket Harness

Plenty of kits can b found on AliExpress or eBay.

i have not heard of any Skoda dealers, anywhere, doing retrofits like this - so good luck.

but if u did manage to find one that will do it for u, it will basically involve:-

- removing existing USB port in the front to access USB data wiring to the infotainment.

- removing centre console attached to the armrest storage so u can route the wiring and put the additional USB port in the blank space.

- spicing into a 5V power source, for the USB hub module.

- coding in the infotainment to enable the additional usb port.
