Mk3 Climate control Issues

Featured Replies

It seems there are plenty of people on here with issues with their heating / cooling but I have another for you.

The temperature of the air coming out of the vents seems to stick. Normally I have it set to around 23/24C and I will get mornings where the air temp never gets that hot coming out of the vent. Then another morning it will heat up fine but then it never backs the heat off once the cabin is up to temperature. Adjusting the temperature when this happens has no effect except that if I turn it to the extremes the fan will kick in to high.

Now all that said, simply turning off the climate control for 2-3sec and then back on at this stage and the temperature coming out of the vents starts to behave. If it had failed to go hot then thats what it does and same with cold until the desired temperature is reached then just works as normal until the next time, any thoughts on it would be great thanks.

Try re-calibration first

Cheers, I'll give that a shot and see if it helps, would be nice if it turns out to be simple fix, either way I'll try for a few days and post my findings.

No Joy on that unfortunately, got it again this morning, all was good then it just started blowing cool until I turned it off and on again which seemed to sort it. Any other suggestions would be great.

It is trying to achieve the requested temp in the car not at the vents.  What is the ambient temp when you want the interior at above 20*oC.   What engine does your car have?   When was it built and how many miles has it done?

I've see it happen at a range of a ambient temps, ie summer and winter but currently it's been 4-8c in the mornings.

Its a 1.6 Diesel, late 2013, 124k

Did you get this sorted - I'm on a 1.4TSI 2013 and have pretty much the same issue.

Flap motors - they fail.  Get a scan done of your car to get the error codes, then we can probably advise more fully.

I'll get the exact code numbers this evening but from memory it's left temp flap actuator jammed and left temp flap no basic data.

I can see the motor go through full range of motion when the "flapaerobics" happens.

Garage replaced this motor in December but the fault has persisted.   I'd send it back by don't fancy spending another £200 to not fix the problem.

Thanks for helping

Got the codes:

B108C71 - Left temperature flap positioning motor Actuator jammed

B108C54 - Left temperature flap positioning motor No basic setting

B109411 - Potentiometer für Stellmotor der Temperaturklappe links Kurzschluss nach Masse

B109415 - Potentiometer für Stellmotor der Temperaturklappe links Unterbrechung/Kurzschluss nach Plus

The same codes were there before they swapped the motor out (I reset them again since just to check, they return)

It's a possibility that the new flap motor is also a dead module. Remember the old adage; just because it's new doesn't mean it's any good. Can you confirm whether you are using genuine VAG replacement products or did you go for a third party replacement motor? I think there is a realignment process in ODIS/VCDS that needs to be done post-install. Make sure this is done otherwise you will experience the codes coming back.

As far as I'm aware it's VAG (hard to check once it's in)  I've run the flap calibration (both by pressing the button combo on the console, and through the basic settings in OBDEleven) - looking at the chart the right goes from 230-23 and back again, I can see the end stop values update.  The LH motor visually appears to go through a full range of motion but (a) the value in the data is only going from 50-10 and back) - the cold stop adapts, but the warm stop remains set to zero (I'm assuming the calibration routing has a range for "valid" calibrations

I know your poin t about new <> good, but it's failing at the same point in the range as previous, which seems too coincidental to be replacement with a bad motor.

Tempterd to take the front panel out and check what voltages I'm seeing at the pot power supply and output.  how easy is it to get the trim off (2013 plate car, so the plastic is probably a bit brittle by now)
