Rattling noise from glovebox

Featured Replies

TDI, rattling noise at 1400 rpm, coming from the glovebox area… Present only when it’s cold outside.

Has anyone experienced this?

Update: not from the glovebox, but from the aircon vents below the windshield… Nothing can be heard outside or under the hood

Does your car have sound actuator... Fake engine sound? Mine is ratling at 2000 rpm... The noise comes from sound box under the windshield

I don’t know 😞

But the buzz is there only at 1400 rpm and only when cold

I feel like this might be my issue as well. I can't seem to isolate it. But it only happens at low rpms.

Did you guys ever get to the bottom of it? Any tips?

My glovebox rattled from new. Fixed with some supplementary rubber - use those dots or strips - to stop the hard plastic lid rattling against the hard plastic surround. But I can't say your sound sample sounded like my rattle (don't have a diesel).

Nope but it seems it gets more quiet as the car ages

Have you found the issue?

I recently solved a rattle that had been driving me mad - it was intermittent and I couldn't replicate it consistently. I was sure it was coming from the glove box area or somewhere over the passenger side but my Mrs said it was coming from my side. I thought it might be the little plastic retainer nubbins in the cup holders, but it wasn't. After a year of trying to pinpoint it it finally turned out to be the plastic surround around the rear view mirror - as soon as I touch it the vibration stops. I just need to get around to putting something in there to stop it permanently.

Where did you exactly put them?

On the edge of the lip of the glovebox. As you push the lid closed, you can feel where the lip contacts. Smaller ones on the rear lip, slightly bigger ones on left and right of the side lips.
