Quantum Platinum Plus 0w20 oil

Featured Replies

In an attempt to save money and since the car is out of warranty I’m doing DIY services now.

The local VW dealer has just sold me a 5 litre “cube” of Quantum 0w20 for my 1.5 TSI. He insists it’s the correct oil but nowhere on it does it mention VW 508/509 or Longlife IV but it does state ACEA 5.

The local factors didn’t have the Comma stuff I used the last time so I thought I’d give the dealer a whirl since it’s the same price.

Is this the correct stuff or do I need to take it back?

TIA

Not hard to find in Glasgow! Who was the VW stealer in question?

Arnold Clark VW Pollokshaws Road.

With a bit of digging it appears that Quantum

do their own 508/509 spec Longlife IV oil. So this oil, despite being ACEA 5 and 0w20, isn’t right. Should have just went to Skoda at Kyle

Street directly.

Enough said; I wouldn't trust that shower to speak my weight!

What's the part number of the oil?

Absolutely useless. I said to the parts guy that I didn’t think it was correct but he insisted they used it on all their cars in for service that needed the 0w20. So I bought it. Now I need to take it back and get it somewhere else.

That’s the one. I’m taking it back.  Just recently had the turbo replaced so I’m not taking any chances.  Picked up a good brand of 5 litres of 508/509 spec locally

Fair play, but it was correct oil.

If you got new one cheaper, then perfect.

I've a feeling in the back of my mind that some of the Quantum oils are made by Fuchs.  And that Fuchs Titan GT1 LL IV might be the same (or very similar) stuff:

Recall this from when I had a Mk2 Golf 16v, and found out that Quantum Silver was actually Fuchs Titan in a different dress.  Only mentioning this coz I'm showing off that my memory might not be as bad as most people think it is :blush

Gaz

Quantum Oils are owned by VW, and everything is to their own spec.

It was/is the correct oil for your car.

Yeah. The weird thing is they also already do a separate 508/509 spec Longlife IV which is the correct oil for my car.
