Very occasional oil warning light and alarm on 2013 1.2tdi

Featured Replies

Supposedly recently serviced 59,000 1.2tdi. After 30 mins or so driving twice recently the red oil light has flashed up briefly with warning beeper - and then just as quickly disappeared, to not return in normal commuting. Oil level normal, relatively recent - within 500 miles - service and oil change. It only seems to happen after say 10-15 minutes of top gear 60mph work. Is this likely to be a partially blocked oil filter? Or oil pressure sensor? Thanks!

I would suspect the sensor first off. It is easy enough to replace and at under a tenner, not going to break the bank.

Be sure the Oil filter is not over tightened, and not just that the oil is not too low, but not over filled.

Checked cold, but checked as it should be, at 'Normal Operating Temperature.'

What oil was used, not brand, spec.     VW 504 00 /507 00 so 5w 30 FS III.

 Someone never used VW 508 00 / 509 00 did they?  0w 20 FS IV

From other post about the car, is it in Perth and was it Skoda Specialist cars, John Clark Group that serviced it and did the other jobs?

Yes it’s in Perth, not sure where it was originally serviced, bought from a garage in Meigle, been there 20 years and have a good reputation for multi- make servicing and sales. They are also standing by us and trying to sort the problems out but are struggling a bit - current thinking is a wiring issue possibly earthing giving skewed data to the ecu. It’s back in agin next week to be looked at by their specialist sparky. Can’t find out if it’s had the voluntary recall as the Skoda garage hasn’t come back to me after two enquiries - possibly, and understandably, as they may not have been servicing it?

Did you mean Serviced 500 miles ago and before she got it?

Ask her if the Invoice shows the oil used.

I know the garage in Meigle.

PS.

Red Oil Can Warning is the Oil Pressure.

Yellow Oil Can is Oil Level.

Needs checked the correct oil filter is fitted, there are not 2 seals fitted, (and that 0w 20 FS IV for newer engines was not put in.)

You’re worrying me a bit now - the way you say you know the garage . . . . . . ? It’s the red can and beeps, not the yellow. Dropped by the garage this afternoon, Ian emphasised it was serviced by them before we bought it - I guess as part of their sales prep, we didn’t pay for it (other than through the purchase price) so no record of oil types / filters - but then there wouldn’t normally be on an invoice, just reference to oil and filters etc. I’m gathering from you all that the type of oil is critical - but cannot understand why the problem doesn’t arise until 25 minutes into a journey, unless the viscosity of the oil used is so wrong that the oil pressure drops.

Because i know the who owner is and pass it every week several times. and have done for decades. I am in Forfar.

Nothing wrong with where it was bought from.

The VW508 00 /509 00 for newer Euro 6 engines is different and not back compatible.   0w 20 FS IV.   Green colour. thin as uck-f.

The correct Oil is 5 w 30 FS III / VW 504 00 / 507 00.  Maybe nothing to do with it, but relevant to know.

As is the issue that was common with Volvo / Ford engines that had Low Oil Pressure lights / warning come on.

The Oil filler cap was not properly tightened or the seal was gash.

I’m pleased you think they’re ok, they seem totally sound to me and are genuinely confused by the issue. My problem is I’m up in Banff, it’s my granddaughter’s car she’s based in Stanley. She’s naturally concerned that when she drives up to us this weekend there could be an issue. It’s booked back in to Meigle next Thursday, hopefully I can get these suggestions to Ian and Stephen and they can bear them in mind - just hoping nothing goes wrong in the meantime! Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

I had the same problem - intermittent light and bong sounding. It first started just after a service. I had to change the oil pressure sensor twice before it cleared the problem. Even the brand new one was faulty. Only £7 from gsf and took 10 minutes to do on the drive.

Finally hopefully fixed as of today, and thanks to all contributors, vacuum sensor as well as egr valve replaced plus factory original oil sensor - patterns not recommended.
