selling decision made!

Featured Replies

Well finally made the decision to sell the 4x4, will be putting it up for sale in the next few days. its been fun, but ultimately times change and I need a cheap hack and not a nice luxury quick-ish skoda. just cant justifty the costs for a 70 mile daily round trip in it anymore, and it hasn't really lived up to expectations if I am honest either. :(

So looking for some recommendations for the new motor.

Its got to be cheap cheap cheap to buy, run, insure and easy to maintain, service and fix.

So far my short list is:

Ford Fiesta

Fiat Seicento

Ford Escort

What about a focus from somewhere like trade sales?

If you are looking to buy new I would say the fiesta with a smallish TDCI (HDi) Engine in it.

Those fiats are awful in an accident, nothing left of the couple I have seen in M/Way shunts, and as for escorts, i think best avoided since you can pick up a second hand focus very cheaply these days.

Escort is a surprising one in that list, deffo consider Fiesta/Focus and how about a Fabia - depending on the kinda thing you're after, the PD100 and vRS are about the right size and they can be picked up fairly cheaply too :)

I had an escort, bought to take miles off my lease car which was in to penalty mileage :(

One of the best cars I ever had

Posted about it in the bangernomics thread last week.....

So are you in the sort of £500 buying an MOT region or up to say £1500?

you got it spot on! 500-1500 no more. the price of the car should be about the price of an octavia service

everyone elses suggestions are good, but too expensive really. I want a rock bottom bargain basement car that I can let fall apart.

no coincidence I started the bangernomic's thread a while back. I have got the missus's new fiesta when I can steal it, but this will purely be to get me to and from work as cheaply as possible. Then when it needs big money, it can be scrapped.

£300 Escort then :D

I had a 1.6 Ghia, with a carb. On motorway commute I was averaging 46mpg

Insurance was about £120 TPFT, I had no NCD as I was using it on my company car. If it was my only car and I could use all my NCD it would have been about £50 :D

Insurance was about

how about a nissan micra (jelly mold shape) very cheap to run insure and tax

i know its not amazing but damn them things run for ever and they are pretty quiet and comfy on the motorway????

Honda Civic!..effortlessly reliable and a good allrounder:)

Would agree with this - we put 100k in a few years on a couple of them and they were still running as well as the day they rolled out of the showroom :D

Skoda felicia, chap to buy and insure, easy to fix, even a numpty like me could keep it on the road! Good on a motorway run too.

Look in the "other models" section for the usual things to watch out for.

Micra's go on forever if looked after, most old fords are cheap as chips! Dont go for a rover unless you want to get your hands dirty (unless its the 1.6 honda engine) as most T & K units are prone to HGF

I know I've got two gone now!

Definatley recomend the Felicia - or how about a Favorite? I had a Volvo 440 that seemed pretty indistructable!
