Misfire and oil fould spark plugs, gunk on oil cap, PCV

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2011 estate with the 1.6 BSE engine.

It started misfiring yesterday, and got an engine code for misfire cylinder 4.

I've checked all the first checks like coil pack, leads plugs.

The spark plug was covered in oil, and there was thick yellow gunk around the cap, looked more like condensation, I put a new spark plug in today and it runs absolutely fine.

But there must still be an issue somewhere, I've checked my pcv valve and I can blow on it and suck on it and air can blow through each way without any resistance, could this be the cause of the oiled spark plug, and is it different on this engine for the pcv to be open both ways or should it be working as a check valve?

I've seen some online for a reasonable price to replace it. Also If anyone can confirm this is definitely the pcv valve, I'm sure it is but just to check, thanks

You can confirm that using the link below. Enter your VIN (on the left hand side of first page) or choose your model and then drill down through the parts.

Thanks, I've always used that site but I had to use the old version of it, and they've stopped it now, I had a look at the new version but it wasn't giving a description of the part 😞 I've just bought a replacement from the part number so hopefully it sorts it :)
