Xenon autoleveling

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

I have a octavia 2010 VRS with xenon headlights. I had a light warning light on the dash which turned out to relate to the level sensor. When i started the car the dipped beams didnt move - they just stayed static and focused at the floor.

I replaced the rear sensor, but to no avail. I then replaced the front sensor which was very stiff. This cleared the warning light on the dash and headlights now move left and right on startup, but they still don't move up and down. I tried manually moving the sensor arms to check it and I even used the old rear sensor to check to see if it was a bad new sensor causing the problem

As its both headlights, I'm assuming its not the headlight units, but something between the sensors and the units.

Can anyone offer any help / advise / ideas on what I should try next?

Thanks

Don't keep adding parts, get a fault code reader on the car, like VCDS or similar tool.

Thanks varoom.

Sorry, should have said. I had a fault reader on a couple of times. First time said level sensor hence changing the rear. The second time said front level sensor, hence changing the front one.

Other issues flagged were:

1)auto washer fault (turned out to be a blown fuse)

2)Trailer grounding issue. All the lights work on the trailer, but I've taken the ground wires off, cleaned the spades and re-attached

3) glow plug fault. Can't see how that's going to affect the lights

Depending on your tool, live data is good to show.

No tools like that. It'll be back the the mechanics, but instead of a diagnostics. I'll have leave it with them.

Should the xenon jump up and and down during startup?

It's likely that the lights need re-calibrating after changing the sensors.

They should move down, out to the sides, back to the middle and back up again on startup.
