Key fob battery

Featured Replies

The battery in my main key fob is flat (as the remote lock/unlock doesn't work, though the spare key does).

In the manual it "suggests" that I get the battery changed at the dealer, in which case:

1) How pricey is that?

2) Does anyone know the battery number and can I do it myself (I know I can, but will it lose sync??).

Cheers,

Hewesy

If its the switchblade type key fob, the battery type/number is Panasonic

CR 2032,

or other companies also do the same part number. You'll get a couple of a market watch stall for around a fiver.

I dare say the Skoda version would be more

Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies, and the link chaps.

It's the "standard" key, which appears to be the same battery on the web link.

Hewesy

Interesting that it's gone after only a year! My one was still going strong after 4 years :D

Chris

£3 at a VW dealer to do it for me and test it was ok. Ammusing this was that the skoda shop charges more.

Yeah I'm not impressed that it has gone already, the battery is a no name model though - could have something to do with it.

Nice and cheap at the dealers though, will compare that to battery prices and see which works out better.

Hi All,

Link above no longer works. Anyone know of any other place to find a guide to replacing the key battery? It seems fairly obvious where to open the key up, but at the same time I don't want to force it.

There is a guide in your skoda hand book. I changed mine the other day.

There is a little groove inside the recess where the key blade folds away. I used a small flathead screwdriver to prise the two sections apart. Then you have to open the battery housing by simply pulling the top section from the bottom. It is obvious when you see it where you have to open it. Pop the old battery out and fit the new one. Making sure the + is on the bottom and you dont touch the face of the battery on either side. I used a tissue to pick up the battery and install it to be safe. Then simply click everything back together and you are done! 60 second job:thumbup:

Thanks, but I don't have a folding key. I've got one that looks a bit like this:

There's a little catch on the other side, and it looks like it separates round the line you can see, but I can't get it to come apart. Should it pull straight, or does it 'snap' sideways?

Cheers.

Mine looks like that too. I've just found out that it just snaps apart if you push on the blade and the Skoda logo. Mine was flashing; snapping it apart stopped that so off now to check it still works. I don't know if there is anything in the manual about how to do that... I think the manual's instruction is take it to the dealer.

Suggestion: Always check the battery first with remote locking problems.

I've noticed the LED in the fob (red), next to the boot-opening button, was not illuminating when a key was pressed.

(Now I think about it, I don't think it ever did in the 2 years I've had the car).

Replaced the battery (CR2032), many strange misfunctions now resolved.

Nice and simple - cost 75p.

There's even a U Tube video to show how to replace the battery.

Suggestion: Check the age of the thread before replying, at ELEVEN years old this one's started sprouting pubes!

Just pubes??
