its called Privacy glass - standard stuff, where the rear glass have a privacy tint from factory.

The point I was making is the tint seems to be much darker than factory fit tinted rear windows. mine are nowhere near as dark as the ones in the photos.

Are you sure that it just doesn't appear to be darker because the car is white?  I have noticed that on white cars the tint looks darker, which I think is because of the contrast between white and the tinted glass?

Compare the rear windows on this white SEL example I found on Auto Trader, you can see through the rear windows, the pictures you posted seem much darker as you can't see through at all, which makes me think a previous owner had them tinted darker than standard and to keep the blacked out look decided to delete the chrome.

You might be right that one has darker windows than the other but you can't really go on different photos from different cameras under different lighting conditions, one appears to possibly have a reflection of flash, the other photo, to me, looks a lot flatter possibly without flash.

Fair point, so I have gone back to the brochure and perhaps this might be the difference, the car in my photos is a SE L Executive and one of the extra standard fitments that car has over other lower models is "Sunset Glass" so may be that glass is different as they all have privacy glass in the back.

I just did search for Sunset Glass and there are many threads running on the topic in this forum, we won't know either way until I get in front of this car at the weekend.

As far as I know 'sunset glass' is exactly the same as 'privacy glass' - just a different name.

A previous poster took a photo of their wife's Superb with aftermarket tinted windows compared to the standard privacy glass, scroll down to see the two cars in the same photo (post from Steviedakota):
