Odd door trim

Featured Replies

Is this door trim correct? Seen this MK III with what I think is odd exterior trim on the window/door, chrome on the window bottom of the front doors, black on the upper portions of the front doors and all black on the rear doors. Its something I never really took much notice off before, but now its caught my imagination since I have actively looking for a new car.

I would imagine that's had a replacement door from a lower trim model

That is what I thought, both rear doors are the same and the front doors upper trim is also black when its meant to be chrome, although its listed for sale, there is no mention of it being in an accident at all? Surely this must affect its resale value? What about the wheel trims, they look like fan blades, ie., twisted to my mind, so that the N/S ones are streamlined and the O/S would have the affect of slicing through the air  when the car is rolling forwards and the opposite way round when reversing?

given the car is a non-sportline Superb - it should b chrome trim all round. u can even see the front bumper lower trim is chrome as well.

the black trim is out place and it is strange why they left the bits below the front window as chrome.

Looks the same both sides, so maybe deliberate or OE.  I seem to recall the Escort XR3 having ‘non-handed’ wheels, and I thought the same aerodynamic fine on one side…

The wheels are definitely not sided that I know of.

and the trim was only all black on a sportline - else it should be all chrome so someone has messed up somewhere along the line.

Yeah, it’s a build error. I had a white XR4i which had a colour coded NS door mirror and a black one on the OS, unmatched alloys, and no carpet in the boot. QC was top notch on that day in Genk…🙄

option PJ6 PEGASUS 18"

OEM "chrome" trims are definitely replaced,
just question, why partly and what were the reason

my previous MY16 Style had that reasons -
1. original "chrome" became dead during first year
-> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/406172-change-of-color-of-door-chrome-strips/
and i painted all door trims to glossy black

Looks to me like the trims have been wrapped and rear windows darkened, sign of a ex-taxi?

Err, I don't think that is the reason, so far I have had Superbs for the last 19 years, that equates to 4 brand-new ones as company cars, the last of which I purchased when I retired. Now the point is that each one of those came with darkened back windows as standard, now I have never been a cabbie and neither did specify tinted windows at the ordering stages, so I'm, lead to believe that the tinting must therefore be a standard feature?

Now this one could be my 5th Superb if things all work out OK, and as such I have done a car vertical check on I'm pleased to say that the report has come with nothing but green ticks for everything so it should be a good car and the report clearly states that it has never been as a taxi, or any form of public transport, nor a police car or any other emergency vehicle, so I don't see why the chrome trim is black in these areas. I think you may be right in that it could be a wrap, certainly that's what I'm hoping for anyway. I asked in case it was an option with the MK III that you could possibly order it new with that trim level, seeing as my experience is limited to MK 1, Mk 2 and the Mk2 facelifted models.

I'm keeping fingers crossed on being able to have it as all chrome trim anyway.

Downloading the photos and zooming in, it rather looks like the chrome trim might actually be missing??

Disagree. Look at what seems to be the wear on the bottom trim on the quarter light on the OS shot.

Wow, how does the trim fit then, is it glued onto the rubber or is the rubber supposed to be pressed/squeezed into the trim piece?

^^^

by default pressed, but in far 2016. were repair campaign when they glued some.
have no info which exact, looks like only front

The rear windows appear to have a much darker tint than standard so it looks like the owner who had this done decided to cover/remove the chrome to give a complete black appearance from the B pillar back, otherwise the darkened rear windows would have made the chrome stand out more?.

As mentioned previously the wheels are not left hand/right hand, but a generic design to fit either side, lots/most alloys are very similar (design dependant unless symmetrical).

Yeah, I accept the windows may have been darkened, which was the point D402 was also making, I appolgise to D402 for any misunderstanding there, however I'm pretty sure that the trim or at least some of it from the back doors is actually missing, I'll know for sure when I get to stand in front of the car, its currently being valeted I'm told. So if the owner has wrapped them or what ever, why do the top section of the front doors in black?

As soon as the garage tell me I can mosey along and see the car in the flesh, we will have some real answers then.

Gave up? Didn’t like the look? Thought it looked great? Idiotic decision?
Take y’pick!

the black trim on the front doors don't match the black trim on the rear doors!!!

makes no sense at all as to wat has been done to the trim on this car's doors!!

its called Privacy glass - standard stuff, where the rear glass have a privacy tint from factory.

black glare trims looks better and will last longer.

just one problem, them can't be fit from factory, when order non Sportline 😞

I really dislike the chrome strip on the rear of the car. 🤮

+1 000 000

i have even sent letters to dealer, importer and Škodas CZ support for new options in configurator:
a) ~400e Black Exterior pack Light (Door Trims)
b) ~600e Black Exterior pack Medium (Door Trims, Front Grill, Trunk Trim)
c) ~800e Black Exterior pack Extended (Door Trims, Front Grill, Trunk Trim, Spoiler)
d) ~1000e Black Exterior pack Complete (Door Trims, Front Grill, Trunk Trim, Spoiler, Roof, Rear Skirt)

due Sportline limitations i preferred order L&K and planning wrap or paint them later

That is good news but bear in mind not all accidents and repairs are reported so you still need to look at the vehicle in the metal to check for accident damage and repair and it could possibly be or involve very minor stuff like previously broken or missing trim.

do you have a part number? driver's rear for me has a massive gouge out of it and it's midly annoying.

A Superb here in the street has the chrome missing from both rear doors, but agreed that this looks like it was re-done for some reason.

I zoomed in a bit more, and it does look as if there may be gouges out just where the top of the door meets the front door and on the drivers side it rather looks like the shaped chrome piece is missing in the corner.
