Car Door Window Trim Edge Moulding Rubber Weatherstrip Seal Strip for Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm looking for guidance in finding the right seal to buy to solve the issue with mould building on the outside of all the 4 windows(see attached picture).

Has anyone come across this issue, and if yes, what window rubber seal do you recommend?

I've had a quick google search, but there are lots of products and I can't make out which out is genuine or not.

Example is: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401579205953

Thank you in advance.

I get the same issue, but it's only algae, and comes off with soap, warm water and a decent brush.  I've tried mould and mildew removers before, but some can have a detrimental effect on surrounding areas if they're strong solutions.

Replacing the rubber will of course delay its return, but return it will if the conditions remain the same.  Replacing an otherwise functioning and intact rubber is harder (IMO) than giving it a good wash.

Thank you @Gaz

Actually it is algae I suppose, greenish in colour. I don't want to remove any of the original windows trims, only trying to find a way to seal that outside opening on the windows to prevent water getting in those areas and perhaps prevent more algae growth.

I find using an old toothbrush works just fine with a mix of mild washing up soap 😉

A current toothbrush works just as well, just so long as it’s not yours 👍

@BACUPIAN I will continue cleaning the area using a dedicated toothbrush and of course not my own toothbrush😃.

Just wondering if this is a design flaw with the Octavia line. I have not seen many cars with this issue. Lucky are those with garages to keep their cars.

Thank you guys for your tips.

It happens on my wife's Renault Clio as well which is kept outside but not on my Octavia which lives in our garage. In fact the Clio appears to have a fillet of moss growing from the ends of that sealing strip. I really must do something about it.

I was looking to replace that strip of rubber not because of algae, but because it is starting to get all cracked/perished.

Is there an official replacement part?
