Brake shoe replacement

Featured Replies

Is it possible, to remove rear brake shoes, on Mk2 Fabia 1.2, without removing wheel cylinder, or wheel bearing?  After removing bottom spring, will the assembly, fit between bearing and cylinder? If bearing does have to be removed, can i reuse nut? Thanks.

You need to separate the shoes to remove them, this means removing the top spring as well.

Refitting is more difficult than removal so you may be best served by simply removing the wheel hub, you don't need to replace the nut, it's reusable.

You can get them off with just the bottom spring removed, but yeah, easier if you take the hub off, it's a taper fit, so no need for presses or special tools or anything.

Yes you can can change the shoes without taking the hub off or the wheel cylinder you need to remove bottom spring and then split the top shoes and leave the handbrake shoe until last, a spring removal tool is handy to have  and a good set of pliers too, it's a bit of a fiddle putting it back on but can be done, it's a lot easier with the hub removed as you can build the shoes ready and just put the handbrake cable in the lever and then  put the set on the backplate and hold in place with the hold down cups and springs but its a personal prerance, mine is to remove the hub makes ife a lt easier .

Thanks for that. I think I will remove hub, as I can dismantle springs off the car. And hopefully reuse the hub nut.
