Charging error

Featured Replies

Have you ever experienced that your iV won't charge, but the red error light flashes when you plug it in?
I first had this problem when the car was about ½ year old. The failure was intermittent but gradually got worse. I made a complaint to my Skoda dealer, who changed the charging plug in the car. It didn't help much though.
Then I complained to the company which has delivered the charging box. They sent a technician who could not measure any fault on the box. Anyway, I managed to persuade him to change the cable and plug on the box - and that helped.
Now the problem has come back after approx. 1½ years. It seems like its something mechanical - there is a series of clicks, as if the a lock is trying to engage but then gives up. And if I squeeze hard downwards on the plug I can sometimes get it to work. When I'm using a public charging station, with the cable that came with the car, there are no problems.
All in all, this leads me to conclude that the problem is with the charging box - probably the plug from the box - and not with the car.
But before I call the company that has delivered the box and makes a (serious) complaint, I just want to be sure that this is not a known issue, related to the iV 😉

Mine is 2,5 years old and I had no such issue. Only once it refused to charge and lit red, but I discovered that charger hung up and restarting it solved the issue.
Just the fact that you are able to charge on public chargers with provided cable makes me think your charger is at fault.

I have sporadically had similar problems. Plugging in yields various odd reactions. In some cases plugging out and  in again fixes the problem, in other cases more complex means have been necessary.  In one case it behaved like in your video - plugged-in, the red light came on and stayed (-> unable to lock the plug according to the manual). After troubling for some time I were able to rectify the problem by using the charger for on ordinary 10 A power outlet. Plugging it in, the charging started as it should. Removing it and plugging in the cable from the charger – everything worked fine.

In case there is an interworking problem (partly mechanical, party in the handshake) between the charger and the car, I attach a photo of the charger label.

I had the same problem with my charger. I plugged it in, white light would go out.

Then there would be no further lights.

Skoda just reset it and it was fixed, i did speak to someone else and he said he pulled Fuse 3 and replaced it and it fixed his.

I am not sure if we should pull fuse 3 though, it says dealer only in the manual.

What happens if you use the lower power cable and a 13A socket?  If the problem continues it is probably the car, if it goes away it is probably your charger box.

(If you need to use a 13A extension lead make sure it is fully unwound / uncoiled).

Did you know what they did to get this fixed?

Hi,

have you had any resolution yet.

my car has just started the same error process.

Need to get the car to the dealer, but have to wait until Saturday as it is 40 miles away!

Dealer fixed mine. But I saw someone on one of the Facebook groups just took a fuse out which reset it. I can't say to do that as I believe the manual says to not touch that fuse.

But it worked from them.

Do you know what it was.

There is a fuse list in the manual. I think it said charging fuse don't touch. But that reset his. They probably just did this to mine.

I took fuse three out, but the car was so flat it wouldn’t do anything after that anyway.

waiting for Skoda assist to come and tow the car tomorrow as I refuse to drive it to the dealership
