2016 superb style radio volume

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the group, was told to post my querie here. I have a 2016 Skoda superb, only have the car a month, and the radio volume won't work, then at times when I start the car it will work. Sometimes if it's not working, I tried holding menu and pretend to update, and that makes the volume work at times. Everything else seems to work on the unit itself, sat nav etc. When the radio is not working, I noticed the volume control has no response, seems to be frozen at times.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas, not keen on spending 3000e on a new unit.

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Which infotainment, and which software version? I suspect it may need an update, but people who know more than I do will need that base data first.

It's a very old firmware, so probably not optimised.

This version is available...

release = "MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3343"
MUVersion = "1433"

{Snip}

SupportedTrains = "MHI2_ER_SKG11_P2104*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_S2104*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_K2129*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_S2129*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_P3260*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_P3304*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_P3325*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3330*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3333*,MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3343*"

As you can see from the supported trains list, it's at the very beginning of a long line of updates, so it has had plenty of changes over time.

Cannot see full path, but as long as it's not say M:\MHI2_ER_SKG11_K3343 path you should be OK

Fingers crossed 🤞

I updated it today and still the same volume issue, sometimes volume works and other times when start car no volume and mute part on screen and volume control not functioning. I wonder is it the screen need to replace or the part in glovebox? Will I need someone then to code the new system to the car?

I get this same issue.  But it's not just no volume on the radio.  It's no volume from anything, radio, USB, bluetooth, Navigation, phone calls......nothing comes through.  Only way to fix it is to stop car, get out, lock it, walk away for 5 min and then come back.  Something during that time seems to reset.  Have taken it back to the dealer and each time they just run the latest software update to the infotainment unit and say it's all fixed......clearly it isn't!!!

Maybe similar issue but when I start car lot mornings no volume, and during the day after car locked and restart. And volume control button very bad response from it when no audio, bars go up slowly but no sound. Then when sound works, volume control and bars all move properly. Annoying issue:(

Can these units be replaced by a different brand, do other units come with the part in glovebox also

Anyone know what the control module is? Is that the part in glovebox? Or the whole unit?

Not sure if this topic is still open, but I notice when radio etc is working, and I turn volume knob left to zero, mute, it stays off then goes into a mute type no sound mode despite volume icons moving up slightly when turn knob to right. Main dealer quoted 3000 for a new module. Not gonna pay that kind of money. Are there other infotainment units that will fit car? And anyone know what brand model etc? Cheers

@pab567 This sounds like something you can answer.

@jimmyw147 Find your VIN, and be prepared to send it if asked.

@jimmyw147 do you have CANTON soun dsystem in your car? If you don;t know then pls share VIN.

Hi I'm not sure of system, the vin is TMBBH7NP3G7053700

You don't have CANTON which means that probably your unit is affected with typical HW issue of dry joints in power amplifier chips. The repair is quite easy - in 95% of the cases it's enough to have power amplifier chips resoldered.

Cheers. It's finding someone who can fix it, ive been looking online and anyone I've asked has declined because only seem to work on older Columbus units and not the glovebox one

Are you located inside EU?

By the way, is it the glovebox unit I need to take out for repair, and not the screen? Are they easy to take out? Thanks

Does the steering wheel volume control wheel have any effect? Could it be faulty and overriding the knob on the display?

The mute button on steering wheel works and the volume up and down rolling knob works

On our recent trip abroad, FM radio sometimes stopped and the volume control did nothing.  I usually listen to DAB and when we were back in the UK, DAB worked fine, but I was in Lithuania for 2 weeks and there was no DAB to listen to there.  If DAB works, I'm not to worried about FM, but I must try FM in the UK to see if it behaves the same as when we were abroad.  SWMBO looks after the radio when we're on the move and selected FM as soon as we were in France to listen to Nostalgie, so I'm not sure what DAB stations are available in other countries we passed through, such as Germany and Poland.
