Central air vent removal MK4 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just picked up a new to me VRS 4x4 and managed to break the driver side vents within 24 hours.

Does anyone know of a guide on how to remove correctly the vents before I start hacking at it? I'm struggling finding anything for the NX / Mk4 online or on these forums.

TIA

Hi,

From the repair manual it doesn't look like you need to do anything special in order to remove the vents.

Hi,

Brilliant, thank you. I was concerned with hidden screws.

I can only see a slot at the bottom, not sure what to pull on.

can you share how you gain access to the repair manual please?

Has anyone managed to remove the central grill?
I want to remove it to put in ambient  light but I'm not sure how to pull the part.

What central grill?

The central vent (No2 on the photo you posted).
Τhe instructions just say you remove it, obviously by pulling it. But I don't know exactly how to do it and I'm afraid I might do some damage.

Thanks.

Yeς, I saw several photos on the internet to understand how it connects. I don't see any holes for screws, it must be with a clasp. But I don't know where to grab it to pull it.

So it looks like just these metal clips hold the vent inside the dash  and nothing more.

Ok, i did it

for the record, there are 4 clips on the underside of the vent, (actually the vent cap) that need pressure to come off.

There are no screws, only clips. Start pulling this out from behind with a plastic trim removal and be gently.

Well basically I just need to show on some photos how exactly you released those 4 clips.

Did you solve it? I got the same issue just to get it out and another one, the left clip for changing of air broke(well i bought the car with broken clip). First I need to get this damn air vent out, then I need the clip. Does anyone have a link for aliexpress replacement? I searched like 100 clips and I don't know which one is correct and most of them fit octavia mk3...

Must be a commin prooblem. Mine has just broken after the centre plastic fell off. The previous owner must have glued it.

Did you find the link for the replacement part please?

Let me know if you fixed it and how

Hallo zusammen,

Vielen Dank!

Hello everyone,

I am currently exploring the idea of reverse-engineering plastic vehicle parts that are difficult to source or disproportionately expensive, and having them produced via 3D printing when needed.

I came across your discussion regarding broken plastic components in the central air vent of the Škoda Octavia IV. Before I invest time and money into a potential replacement solution, I would like to determine whether there is actual demand for it.

To that end, I have a few questions:

Regarding the defect:

1. Which specific plastic part has broken?
2. Do you have photos of the damaged component, or perhaps a part number?

3. Which vehicle is affected (model year, model, and trim level)? Does the air vent still function otherwise, or does the entire unit need to be replaced due to the defect?

Regarding parts availability:

4. Have you been able to find the original part sold individually—either at a dealership or online? If so, what is the part number and the price?

5. If only the complete air vent unit is available, what is the cost at your dealership or online?

6. Have you already tried any alternative solutions, repair kits, or 3D-printed parts? If so, which ones, and what were the results?

Regarding a potential repair solution:

7. Would you purchase a precisely fitted, standalone replacement part if it meant avoiding the need to replace the entire unit?

8. What price would you consider reasonable for such a part, assuming it fits and functions reliably?

9. Are there other owners with the same defect who are also looking for a solution?

I do not currently have a finished replacement part, nor am I promising a ready-made solution. At this stage, the goal is simply to better understand the defect and the level of demand. If this leads to a technically sound solution, I would develop a prototype and have it tested.

I would greatly appreciate any photos, part numbers, links to listings, or insights based on your own experiences.

Thank you very much!
