About to order L&K 190 Hatch - will I get the new variant that's just been teased or current version?

Featured Replies

As title says, I'm just finalising  a deal to swap my 280 Sportline for an L&K but I've seen that Skoda are due to launch a revised version of the Superb in the autumn. Dealer is quoting 6 to 8 months for delivery and has said on phone that they are no longer able to order the "old" version. Does this ring true or should I press for certainty, I'm in no rush to change and obviously would prefer the very latest variant. Ta

These days it seems likely true.

Hmm that’s a tricky one. The new car is likely to be more expensive but as you cannot officially buy the Superb 4 yet as it’s not been released I’d say you’d get a current Superb 3 facelift.

I’d get written confirmation of whether you’ll be getting a 3 or 4

Yeah, getting a bit nervous about it now! Dealer said he couldn't order any more old ones in conversation. I've texted him to make it clear that I only agreed to proceed on basis that I'd get a new one. He's speaking to the vehicle supply people tomorrow so should get clarity one way or another. Order not yet placed but I've paid deposit on basis of what he said.... My impatience/excitement often gets the better of me unfortunately!

Manufacturers relaunch their models all the time so there must be an established sequence of events to get around the changeover particularly these days when there's practically no stock and waiting times are quoted as 6 months plus?

If the price you were quoted is the same as the current price on the Skoda website then surely it’ll be a superb 3 FL.

I imagine the sales rep will say anything because of commission, but say you ordered it in Red as an example how do they know the Superb 4 will even be in red.

Be better if you can go in person and see their system as maybe it’ll show the Superb 4 before general public can

Well it's all very concerning! I can see that it's a bit strange taking an order when there's every likelihood the price and spec will change before the car is even built! Bottom line is unless I get some cast iron guarantees tomorrow I will back out and get my deposit back, nothing has actually been ordered yet.

Typo

As is today's norm, I expect the millenial designers will be hitting it hard with the ugly stick ala BMW. I expect the infotainment will be even more dire, buggy and subscription based.

You seem to be suggesting I should hope I get the current version! There's only speculation at the moment about the coming tweaks. I'm not overly fussed about the external appearance but there is a suggestion that the infotainment screen might get changed for a bigger one that isn't integrated like the current one. The deal I've been offered is a cracker so perhaps I should stop worrying so much!

u can't order the new mk4 Superb - books r not open, let alone has it been even revealed/released!!

if anything u will b getting the current facelift mk3 Superb, albeit MY24.

delivery times of 4-8 months is normal across the globe.

But it's widely reported that the mk4 will be launched in the autumn. They surely don't build mk4 and mk3"s at the same time so production of the mk3 must stop before the the mk4 is launched later this year. If it's still taking an age to deliver what happens if they stop production of the mk3's before they get around to building mine?

@Paulinkeighleyyour guess is as good as anyone else's uneducated guess.

These are not normal times for car manufacturing or Skoda / VW manufacturing and the First Registration for Average Fleet Co2 emissions in the UK.

Sales people want to get orders in and ultimately sell cars and hope they are arriving and going to a customer before they lose their job at that dealership,

but they do not know what the future holds, and until their most senior bosses have been to see New cars later in the year maybe abroad or maybe at a runway or 5 star hotel in the UK they will be non the wiser about Facelifts, next generations etc.

Even after the info is out in Autocar / Auto Express and on social media / forums / Briskoda they might still be non the wiser.

Given all the uncertainty I think I'd best just put the whole car changing idea on hold until things become a little clearer. Naively I thought there'd be a well organised plan for shifting from the mk3 to the mk4 but if there is it seems to be a well kept secret and it could be months before there's certainty. I fear prices will rise but my 280 sportline with only 12000 on the clock seems to be doing OK trade in wise and my pcp is slowly building up some equity. Must try to be more patient!

It would be fantastic and simply clever with a long build up to launching a 4th generation model not counting the face lifts that Skoda can get them right from the first ones sold.   Sadly they never managed that with MK4 Octavia or Fabia.   They actually are failing to address all issues with ones people already own and are getting peed off with.   You might as well hold off and actually know what you will be getting and can they get Quality Control as it should be and not bring to new cars issues they are having with ones they build now.   Software being the Elephant in the room.

Skoda do have multiple factories in different countries so I wouldn’t be surprised if Factory A will be building the Superb 4 now on a limited basis for events and Tour de France cars (where Skoda first seen usually is)

It still might be worth going to your dealership to see how they know it’ll be the 4th gen like they said, can see if they’ve been lying then too :D
