Shattered light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I received an error message regarding the left dipped beam. I don't know much about cars, but I managed to pull out the bulb in the end. It was shattered, as you can see in the picture. I have no idea when this happened, maybe it happened when I was playing around with the bulb.

Now I'm also getting an error message about the parking light, which is not working either. This error message wasn’t there before I tried to take out the xenon bulb.

Questions:

Since the bulb was shattered, does it matter if there is glass inside?

Is it just a coincidence that the parking light is also not working? I suppose I should replace it regardless.

Can I just try to replace the bulbs or do you think I should read off errer logs etc?

thanks!

I don't think it will matter too much myself, but would be a pain to remove this small pieces of glass (if your beam pattern is ok, I would not worry)

It may have happened at same time or before, replace and test

Replace BOTH sides at same time, and make sure to not touch any of the glass as this creates hot spots that can cause these failures.

Only exception to changing both sides, is if you not that long ago swapped the other side.  If you only swap the one bulb, then you will see light output and a colour shift from one side to the other,

As written on the bottom you need D3S bulb of course.

You will then have a single spare bulb for testing. or if one fails on the road.

@varoooms reference on ' touching glass' is for the lamp itself - the oil left by your fingerprints will etch the glass, which can result in the lamp shattering - this may have been the cause of the original failure.

Cotton gloves or a clean cloth are essential when handling most lamps (even QH types)

Thank you, guys. I think I’ll just go ahead and  insert new bulbs and see what happens.
