Skoda Superb Door Rubber Seals/Edge Trims - to go between the gaps - for noise reduction (sound insulation)

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone know if an additional rubber trim attached between the front and rear doors (along the edge of the rear door. See picture) to seal the gap would help reduce road/wind noise entering the cabin? I've noticed that luxury cars seem to fill this gap with rubber - maybe for this reason as well as keeping the inside of the doors clean. Unfortunately I can only seem to find universal rubber seals but I'm not sure if they will fit. Wondering if anyone has found any that fit that they would recommend please.

Thanks.

I used a rubber adhesive strip form Alliexpress, similar to the one below.  Neat fit and closes that gap.

Did it make much difference to wind noise / sound reduction?

worth!

together with these strips

what gave + ~20% improvement to full sound deadening installation

size(11+3 x 18 mm) of following is about 25% too big for normal closing

I have some on the leading edge of the rear doors.

I ordered these. They fit fine with a trim for length.

Do they work for noise reduction?

They seemed to subjectively but I can't say for  certain as I didn't measure objectively and it's hard to get the exact conditions everytime I drive to be certain.

I feel as though they did and I'd be happy to do it again if I ever swapped cars and I'll add more in different places when I get chance.

I wear them. They do something, but little.

The type of road surfacing seems to makes a big difference to where the road noise enters the car. With 'old school' HRA roads the noise seems to come in from everywhere, whereas when driving on new SMA surfacing it only seems to come from the tyres.

Some sections of the new M20 smart motorway are almost silent, particularly what was the hard shoulder, which only had a thin overlay rather than a full reconstruction.

That's a really good point - on rough surfaces the noise does seem to come in from everywhere. I'm curious what other luxury/quieter cars, such as the AUDI A4, do differently to make them so much quieter.

Don't expect any audible improvements but they can't hurt.

But along with additional sound dampening in the doors doors they will have a nicer 'thunk' when closing.

Hi

I hope you don't mind these questions:

1. Did you find that you had to fit these an inch or so down from the very top of the door (there's a bit of rubber at the top which gets in the way. See picture)? Or did you cut the top of the strip so that it flapped over the top of the other rubber trim (and glue down onto it)?

2. Did you have to cut the trim short at the bottom to shut the door (the gap gets very tight at the very bottom)?

Any advice appreciated. I'll then go for it, i.e. cut the trim to size (no going back when I do, hence the questions and trepidation :-)).

Many thanks.

No worries with the questions.

I went to a slight overlap like you did there at the top as in my pic

The bottom doesn't really stay in place where I have it as the door pushes it off.

But it stays fine just above the sportline door trims there where your pic shows.

It would probably be best if it went right to the bottom but it won't stay.

Just added a "z" profile seal to each front door leading edge and lower edge from the inside.

Wether this will do anything remains to be seen/heard.

I didn't have enough left do do the lower portions of the rear doors.

Points for guessing the make and model of the car behind the door 😁

Finally had some time to fit these things, that were laying around since weeks ... must take phots next time, it became dark quick and they did not look very good ...

I used the "ali" 'z' profile on leading edge of both front doors, and also on woman-mobile (CT200h). Good trick is in this cold weather to warm them up with a heat gun or similar (carefully! is not needed to "cook" the rubber!) to soften a bit the adhesive.

After a couple days of use, seem to hold well. I am not so much targeting noise reduction as I am targeting "muck reduction", but will see, have not gone out on the highway to check.

I tried to use the remaining 'z' profile but I am not really keen in fitting them to the bttom of the doors, I do not like the result on Calskil's car above. Tried in different places, but there is nowhere else to put them but on the leading edge of front doors really. At 1 euro per car, a bit less than 2m ... good I say.

I will try next the "sloping D" from Martini and see, this exactly to keep clean the sills.

In between the doors I used these

instead of the ones suggested, I believe this is a firmer grip and larger edge for sealing. No issues whatsoever with door closing, and no "pull" (when you see the door edging out). The CT200h had already this originally from the factory!

I am next try to order some "P" rubber to fit in the upper edge of the tailgate, another area prone to muck gathering ... the 'z' there remains partially compress and bent, so is not a good idea - will collect water and dirt towards the adhesive part, useless.

Photos next time!
