Speedometer problem

Featured Replies

I've just noticed that my speedometer is over-reading my speed and won't drop below 23mph when I'm stationary (or switched off). Any ideas?

Strange,

normaly it under reads by about 7 km/h...

Maybe a VCDS coding can solve it

I doubt VCDS coding will solve what sounds like a sticking or jammed stepper motor in the speedo.

Does the digital display read correctly?

Agreed but you can make the needle go through its full sweep several times which might dislodge it, you could also program a needle sweep on switch on to keep it free.

I agree the needle sweep sounds a good idea to try.

No, needle sweep is not standard - neither of my Octavia 3s (a 1.4TSI Elegance and a 1.8TSI L&K) have had needle sweep enabled until I did the VCDS coding change I posted.

I did laugh when I read "This should be standard no? at least it is on mine"

On my 2014 vrs it is standard. Maybe only in France...

Thanks, people for your responses. Going to take to Skoda specialists and suggest stepper motor first.

I'll ask the same question I asked in an earlier post. Does the digital readout show the correct speed? If not, could be a sensor problem.

It's not a digital read-out, it's a sweep needle that reads clockwise on a dial....

I know that. I'm talking about the multifunction display between the rev counter and speedometer where you can bring up oil temp, fuel consumption etc. You can bring up the speed as well.

Aha! Probably above my pay-grade. I'll investigate. Thanks!
