Hey all, I just thought I would document my project of modifying my Mk2 Black Tech.

 

This is my first big undertaking of moding a car and seeing the insurance impact at 19 for other young drivers.

 

The current work I have done on the car is,

Aesthetics: 

Black Skoda wheel badges

Black Skoda Logos on car

Sun strip

Led Interior lights

Led DAY LIGHT RUNNING

RGB footwell lighting

 

Performance:

Remap

Custom exhaust with fake backbox (to pass MOT)

Custom Air intake Using Vrs parts and 3d Printed Parts

K&N Performance Filter

It has the 1.2 TSI engine, started at 105 BHP now sitting at 160 BPH

Custom exhaust
Speedline turini wheels
Forge BOV
5mm wheel spacers
wider and thicker wheels
uniroyal rainsports all round
Wind deflectors (had rear ones but they snapped)

It's my daily, go everywhere in it with the missus and my 2 dogs. Very practical and fast. Sounds mint too.

I have other plans for it, just time and money, but I don't intend of getting rid of it anyways so I can spend as long as I need to!

I was looking at the BOV, was it worth it? also looking at a hybrid turbo which will add a good amount of HP but would require the BOV

A hybrid will take your insurance costs into the stratosphere, a BOV is noisy and pointless, you already have a a recirc. valve which does the same job but better.

Haha until my insurance renews in September I will be playing the game of out of sight out of mind with mods and my insurance.

Welcome to the forum.  No out of sight out of mind if you post about mods done and not declared on an open forum.  All you might being doing is driving with invalidated insurance.

they are sparko seatbelt covers from an old i20 that I had. as for the list of mods here, would the insurance ever come across this post. for the most part all mods are hard to tell. the intake uses vrs parts so looks the same just bigger and the map unable to tell unless you read the ecu.

I put in for a quote with sterling insurance, 3 years no claims in September and named driver and everything with the only mod listed as my exhaust and got a quote of £3500

I knew exactly what they are and like a Plod the myriad other mods that a person who would fit them will have likely done.

 

That said when do you ever see a Plod on patrol anymore? They are too busy on Twitter.

It won't alter any insurance situation you have and what you record on a public forum - for all you know I could be a serving Police Officer in Belfast, I'm not either - but if you or your car shouts "look at me" (or listen to the noise my car makes) and I'm not saying your car looks  modified and I can't know if it sounds modified, but if it does (either) then you can't complain if people look and hear it including the Police and you be surprised if the Police think you might be worth a pull..

Very probably not, under usual circumstances, but it is possible (again I could be involved with car insure, again I'm not).

Depends if you have to claim or it's involved in a serious accident or other incidence then these things could be easily noticed or found, especially if there are other shout-outs on the car suggesting a more thorough look, unless the VRS parts are standard to Monte Carlo too just that could be (is?) a modification.

There's a good reason for that, simple statistics, young inexperienced (3 years) drivers have accidents and those that make their cars go faster tend to have more serious accidents.  We were all 19 once and know how we thought and drove then (especially men), human nature doesn't change, 10 or perhaps less years from now you won't believe what you think (and post now).

@Retr0_D0gsJust so you know it is not an internet myth that Insurance Loss Adjusters do check Enthusiasts Forums.

If you were to be unfortunately in having an accident then that is when Undeclared Mods might bite you in the bum.

The third party insurance stays valid but the policy holder may get asked if they want to withdraw any claim they made.  They might even end up paying for the insurance underwriters losses.

There has been Loss Adjusters that were active on this forum and probably still are, or at least look in occasionally if they were dealing with a claim involving a modded Skoda.

One that someone says that the car must have been altered from Factory Standard or Remapped before they bought it and they had no idea.

Your insurance wouldn’t be invalidated if someone hit into you and it was there fault it’s if you have a serious collision that is your fault , the insurance investigators pull the ecu and check the map and also visually inspect the car it’s hard to fool someone who’s job it is on a day to day , as for the car , love it and keep up the enthusiasm for modding, if you can dream it , it can be done !

I've had "classic car" and specialist sports cars insurance policies for various cars for 30+ years and car insurance since 1977 so have a little experience as a policyholder (others no doubt will have even longer and wider experience (and knowledge) than me).
